Around the League: You Like Mammoth?

It’s actually amazing that Winnipeg is probably the least desirable place to live in the NHL but they managed to build a strong team with a strong identity. Anything can happen with good management.

i remember seeing a youtube video where it was explained that players playing in Winnipeg are truly dedicated to the team/culture.

and it makes sense. no one is signing there long-term unless they're in it for the game.

Jets with the solid W but Helle still with the abysmal numbers. Had to make a ton of good saves but let in two softies, the 2nd one being a huge headscratcher. Really weird. Jets should have the momentum but they also know that if the Blues sustain possession they will get a lot of goals.

That's the type of players Canucks need to have.

If Florida panthers sub again does Florida state become the home of hockey with 4 of the least 6 cups? A disturbing thought. How many years will it take canada to have as many cap era cups as the state of Florida? 2040? 2050?

I mean, Cali had three cups in 7 years and could've had more if the Sharks weren't such chokers. We all used to talk about the California road trip of death, but I don't think we handed them over the title of Hockey Nation.

T/W - Sexual Assault.

Following the trial of the 5 former players accused of sexual assault - yikes. The details coming out sure paint one of the accused, Michael McLeod, as the major ring leader and encouraging everyone else to participate.

And a number of individuals not on trial certainly had knowledge of events going on. Whether they knew via text and chat, or if they were in the room at certain points. And some of those individuals are possibly playing with their teams right now. Just gross.

Raddysh/Katchouk and others that walked into the room most likely knew some sort of group sex is/was taking place because of the text from McLeod to the main group chat, but it’s unclear whether those that walked in knew that there wasn’t consent beforehand from EM who clearly never consented to the group sex in the first place. It appears Raddysh and Katchouk went to their hotel rooms after McLeod’s text and stayed there until McLeod had asked them to come out and chill at his room, with EM and the participants in the room.

The videos show that EM “consented” prior to and after smiling and teasing the voice behind the camera calling them paranoid. Without debating whether or not this was coercion or genuine, those coming in and out of the room probably had the impression that this was consensual based on how she appeared to act and would not have had the context to discern whether she was coerced into sex or if she was a willing participant unless they were inside the hotel room the entire time as the incident was taking place.

As for the videos, I’m just going to say, it is such a huge red flag that you need to make a video before and after of a women consenting on video.

Despite the win I thought Helleybuck still had a bad game. Save pct far below 900 again. Winnipeg d smuthered the St Louis offense, but when they did get the chances you could feel the cringe when a shot went towards him. Even if Winnipeg gets by St Louis I dont see them doing much with Helley playing the way he is in the playoffs

We have other cases in the past like Kobe for example. This 1 night hook up culture/lifestyle, you just never know the type of person you are going to meet. See P. Kane accusation from a dozen plus years ago. And Shannon Sharpe in current news (which may not be a 1 night thing, as I haven't followed that case closely).

Younger people have seen those, and thus with smart phone technology, they decide this is their best "Defence" against a future accusation by getting something on video.

Rumours of Cooper potentially going to Utah.
He knows the Utah owner. Plus, he only took a 1 year extension last off season that kicks in next year. That was a weird sign. Typically, you'd add 2-3 more years when you have 1 left, so that you're not back at the table again next year.

3 straight 1st round exits. Not sure what TB can do about it. Have to pay the piper when you add McDonaugh, Goodrow, Coleman, Jeannot, etc. for futures. Now is that time when those picks that would be early to mid 20's come of age. Don't have that and didn't draft/develop as well as they had (that is hard to maintain as well).

Either he gets another extension or he parts ways with the team. I don't see him just coaching out the final year. What is the point of doing that?

Problem being, consent isn't a one-point-in-time matter where if someone says OK once it then means you can do whatever you want thereafter. Which I feel like is what the defendants entirely fail to grasp, even though they understood they did something bad after the fact.

I really don't get the perspective where powerful people are somehow framed as likely victims of unfair sexual assault accusations, when they're the ones who have the resources, connections and PR to wish away trouble or harass potential complainants - which is literally the only reason why this trial is even taking place (Hockey Canada making it go away multiple times and only getting noticed when they blew a big fiscal hole to do it).

There are infinitely more victims of sexual abuse do not have the capacity to seek justice than news-watching lawyers encouraging dubious complainants to go ahead. There's a reason why prolific predators tend to only get public accusations levied years after each fact or even after their deaths.

LA made some critical errors that cannot be acceptable if they lose the series. That coaches challenge was unbelievable. Fireable offense, and if the GM doesnt fire the coach he should be gone too. The Byfield giveaway in game 4 with the goalie pulled is the other massive mistake

You cant give McDrai that kind of undeserved opportunity. They are truly generational players. So clutch in the playoffs, and LA making it so easy for them

I cant get over how good McDrai individually are in the playoffs in comparison to even Mackinnon. And of course to Matthews

I truly hope the Oilers crash out so those two guys go elsewhere so I can cheer for them and truly appreciate how excellent they are (whining and weiner behaviour aside)

While McDrai are always going to be dangerous, LAK have actually compounded the issue when they've been more than good enough to win. With some better coaching they could easily be up 3-2 in the series or, hell, even have won already by this point.

Look at what this Kings fan is saying for instance:

Just play every skater a minimum of 8 mins of ice time and this series will be over soon...

Kings are clearly the better team.

Hiller needs to trust his players and show a little more composure and a lot better game management. He's literally doing the Oilers job for them (tiring out the Kings top players so they're too gassed to stop McDaivd and Drai by the time the 3rd period gets going) - Like that literally should be the game plan for the Oilers bottom 6 and Hiller's essentially saying "don't even worry about it, I'll take care of that for you".

Spence, Moverare, Turcotte, Helenius, even Clarke to an extent - these guys are good hockey players man... Mistakes are going to happen at times but you have to trust that your players can handle some ice time.

It just screams 'lack of composure' from Hiller. One of the guys above makes ONE bad play or misses ONE assignment and Hiller becomes terrified to put them back out on the ice. Everyone is going to make mistakes at times - the answer is not to bench 2-3 players a game so the rest of your team is playing short handed. The fact that I even have to type that last part is infuriating but here we are.

Kings in 6 - just have to stop self sabotaging and this thing is OVER.

When you look at the ice-time distribution of their top 9/top 4, compared to their 4th line/bottom pair, it's absolutely insane. No wonder they looked so dead by Game 5.

Fun fact that I just noticed: Every season the Canucks HC has won the Jack Adams Award, the Canucks' starting goalie was runner-up for the Vezina:

1992 - Pat Quinn & Kirk McLean
2007 - Alain Vigneault & Roberto Luongo
2024 - Rick Tocchet & Thatcher Demko
I believe it was Alain Vigneault who stated outright something like "show me a good coach, and I'll show you a good goaltender."
