The funniest thing about the Rantanen trade is they went with the HFBoards GM strategy of getting assets back for an expiring contract and the only thing it did was hand Colorado a first round loss.

Colorado is a cup contender, it would have made more sense to hold on to Rananten for these playoffs than trade him.

Be interesting to see how Hellebuyck does tonight. He had a good game 5 but the other games he never had a sv% above 0.842. Will he get out of his head? Will he shrivel even more under the pressure?

This is year one of his big deal…you don’t want that money tied up in a guy that can’t perform in the playoffs

Honestly, missing the playoffs or losing in the first round over and over, I don’t know what’s worse

Pretty thin Team Canada going to the WHC. But I did a double take at Ty Ronning - he had a bonkers, ridiculous season in Germany. Dwarfed his totals from last season.

TY RONNING

2024-25 | Berlin Polar Bears 🏆 | DEL (championship)
47 GP | 37 G | 36 A | 73 PTS (RS)
14 GP | 11 G | 14 A | 25 PTS (PO)

CLIFF RONNING
1989-90 | Asiago HC | Italy-A (finals)
42 GP | 74 G | 61 A | 135 PTS (RS)
6 GP | 7 G | 12 A | 19 PTS (PO)

time to bring the little guy home

(for reference, ty led the DEL in scoring while cliffy was only 11th in the italian league, although eyeballing the math he probably was top five in pts/game)

Lou was the reason there was a game 7 (for both teams). This isn’t the same. This is year 4 of this and this is by far the worst year.

I don't f***ing get it, Hellebuyck is no doubt a great regular season goaltender.
He has probably the worst playoffs I've seen, even Luongo on his worst days wasn't this bad.
Just terrible.

You can tell the Jets are completely deflated and scared to do anything. Terrified of giving up shots.

Swimming like a fish for no reason on the first goal, and the second one was just beat completely clean.

I think starting Helly was fine - you aren’t going to go anywhere anywheres if your MVP candidate turns into a pumpkin, and with a guy this fragile benching him might’ve made a hypothetical second round even worse.

No clue if they can do anything about it in the offseason either, just feel bad for Jets fans.

No idea. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a player this far in his head. It’s bizarre.

You ride your franchise goaltender til the end, I don't fault the Jets for starting him.
He got you to this point, ride him til you can't.
