Around the League Thread | The Conference Finals Begin!

it's may 29, the teams are set and it might take until june 20th to award the cup?

why

Oilers are winning the cup. Don’t see Florida beating them this time around. Oilers are healthy as f*** too and Florida has multiple star players injured.
I expect a few visits from 18 year Old Sam Bennet's elbows, and Hymen's already out. The Oilers are going to need to have an exceptional amount go right for them to win while the Panthers hold their "Gregory Campbell" trump card.

I don’t gamble but I would like to place a bet on Bennet accidentally elbowing Skinner in the head.

It’s a just final. Edmonton Florida clearly a cut above the rest. The pace they play with is spectacular, relentless.

The way both have dismantled other strong contenders and made quick work of them is seriously impressive. There’s a level of hunger and focus to both that separates them from the pack.

Edmonton looks better than last years team in the SCF, and same is true with Panthers.

Should be a good finals, hoping for 7.

DeBoer truly clueless. Sure you start DeSmith to shake up the team but you have to have him on a short leash as well. They got enough goals, in my mind Oettinger could have stopped some of those last few, definitely the 3rd goal. Maybe even the deflection which a game ready goalie might be able to get vs a rusty one. And he at least gives you a chance on the McDavid breakaway.

Saw a bit more of the usual weaknesses from Skinner in this game, the second Robertson goal was weak and extremely familiar. I just think Bob is a superior goalie to Skinner, and I dont know if the Oilers will be able to keep up their defence which has a big chance to expose Skinner. And their forechecking might not work because the Panthers also have a very strong forecheck. The Oilers might not get to work the body as they did against Dallas.

The game was over when they went to DeSmith. We saw playoff DeSmith last year, we kept playing a green Silovs over a healed DeSmith. I don't care about his sheltered numbers on a top Dallas regular season team.

As for the Finals, the Kings early on in their first round series exposed the Oilers main weakness, and that is on special teams. If the Panthers can get the Oilers to play undisciplined hockey, which would be hilarious given what the Panthers have gotten away with this playoffs, they can make them pay.

Oilers lost both regular season meetings and they were high stakes pride-on-the-line games. Oilers only won Game 5 in Florida's barn. Well, they have 4 in Edmonton this time, so Florida is going to have to win a couple in Alberta.

My brain says Florida, but my gut says Edmonton. Florida already got theirs so I'm not necessarily cheering for them, but the Canucks fan in me would never let me cheer for Edmonton.

So the Canes and Brind'Amour need another, what, 21 years and 9 more trips to the ECF to get the necessary Ws to finally get to the cup final again?

(edit: I'll be honest...had the Canes played the first 3 games like they did the last 2 this would be a series going to 7 and the winner a toss up. But they didn't. Maurice even said during a mid-period interview that the way the Canes were playing the last two games was what they were expecting from game 1. So the opposition coaching staff was also confused as to what the Canes were doing the first 3 games).

Also, the big break between the conference finals and Stanley Cup final is stupid. No idea why they have started doing this. In the summer it does not take people more than a day or two to forget about something if it's not constantly in their face.

Shot volume had been dying a slow death and has arguably been dead for at least one season. They basically play similarly to the Panthers (but way cleaner) except with that antiquated approach on offence and with not as many gamebreakers.

Like DeBoer teams at some point they run into a team where they can't score. And this year they couldn't play defence either.

DeBoer should be fired and shouldn’t get another hc position for a long time. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable behavior.
He will get fired and probably hired within the year. as stupid GM's and owners will keep going to the well of old geriatric coaches.

Ken Holland may not be the best GM, but one of his best moves was hiring Knoblauch over any of the crap in the NHL recycle bin.
