Around the League Thread | The Conference Finals Begin!

This has to be extremely frustrating for Dallas fans. They completely out played the Oilers again for large stretches. They absolutely dominated the opening 10 minutes and really the entire first period. Edmonton's saving grace was doing a great job of shutting down the shooting lanes though. The difference in the game being two huge mistakes, 2 stupid penalties in the offensive zone (leading directly to goals seconds later), combined with a bad non-save by Oettinger on Draisaitl, and it's game over just like that.

Edmonton not making the mistakes Dallas is and they are lethal on the counter-attack and special teams. Benn and Marchment are both complete idiots though and handed the Oilers the game. Dallas should have tied this series up last night.

losing hyman might be a death blow tbh, if not against dallas then against florida. him and rnh have been the main drivers in this series.

brown apparently has a concussion, so they're about to run 40 year old corey perry and kasperi kapanen as their top-6 rw options

if ekholm is healthy, should honestly consider bouchard for one of those spots and play 7d

EDM's ability to tackle pressure and adversity with almost hateful spite makes me think that Hyman's absence, while significant, will not slow them down.

Their depth guys have contributed in many crucial moments, and this is just another opportunity for them to step up.

Dallas has only $5 mill of cap, but they basically transferred all cap savings from Benn to pay Rant. Which is an upgrade. $5 mill with a 16 man roster. So, they need to move someone out in order to do anymore than find bare minimum salary guys to fill out the roster.
Dallas has limited assets given that they moved their 2025 to 2027 first rounders out come next TDL to upgrade before the PO begin in 2026.

hyman was such a key piece of that though. i think it was game 2 where dallas put every ounce of effort into stopping drai-mcd-perry and knoblauch just rolled the kane-rnh-hyman line to feast on them right after.

in the vegas series, it was connor brown driving the secondary scoring, and now he's out too.

this means mcdavid and/or draisaitl (who doesn't look anywhere near peak capacity) have to go nuclear, which they very, very well could do (obviously). but florida knows how to shut those guys down, as well.

They need to move on from DeBoer and move out Seguin and Dumba if they want to contend.

If they double down and re-sign Duchene, Seguin and Granlund or some combo of useless 33+ year old vets....they will either miss the playoffs or get bounced out in R1.

Oilers looking unstoppable right now. With all the nonsense coming out of the White House, this is the year I really want a Canadian team to win the cup (normally I don't care much), but if an Alberta team wins it, does it really count as a win for a Canadian team?

Dallas should probably be at 2-2 based on the flow of play this series.

But yeah, some crucial mistakes have killed them. Man, Jamie Benn is reaallllyyyy cooked. Just does nothing out there except take penalties. Marchment played well last night, had a ton of chances, but his antics cost his team by putting them on the PK too much.

Again, they have $5 mill of cap room to fill 7 roster spots. So, can't re-sign 2 of those 3 vets for that amount.

Seguin, where could they send him? In the 3 prior seasons, he's been a 50 point guy playing 81, 76, 68 games. This season, played 20 games and had 21 points. 2 more years under contract with a full NMC.

Have to look into make a move with the likes of a Dumba, Marchment, Steel, Lib,

Once Ekholm is available I can't see them not going 11-7. Their forwards are getting knocked out, and their next man up is Skinner who Knobluch doesn't trust. They shouldn't take Stecher out, and they can ease Ek back in with more limited minutes.

They'll have one series to go. Might as well go 11-7 and redline McDrai.

The biggest benefit about being in control of their series is the fact they could load manage McDavid and Draisaitl. McDavid hasn't had to play above 24 minutes since Game 2 of R2. Draisaitl has been around 20 minutes this series.

These guys can probably play 28+ minutes in the finals.

Yep. Key for EDM is to just get through Dallas with as little wear and tear on McDrai as possible. Then you redline them in the Finals.

Come on Dallas. Just hit, facewash, punch, etc McDrai anytime you can.

Hopefully Skinner lets in a Cloutier next game and it completely deflates the team.

Oh shit, I didn't know the Oilers just lost Hyman. That f***ing sucks for them (may they eat shit forever, but I still feel bad, sort of), what a shame.
