Around the League Thread | The Conference Finals Begin!

It's truly baffling just how anemic Dallas' offense has become. Especially against Stuart Skinner of all goalies. Edmonton really is going to be the "heroic" team to break the curse aren't they?

Not surprised. The veterans for Dallas are slow and massive liabilities 5 v 5 -expectedly struggling to keep up with Edmontons pace and physicality. Their younger forwards are perimeter players who seem incapable of elevating their game, especially at even strength. Johnston looks worse than 2024 Pettersson.

Dallas was a team that could rack up regular season points but many of those contributers are succumbing to father time. That game against Vancouver where they surrendered 3 goals in the final minute raised some concerns.

2 goals in 3 games against Stuart Skinner.

This series should have been a sweep.

Losing Hyman will be huge against the Panthers, if in fact the Oilers do get by the Stars. Dallas needs to keep at it and play it loose if they're going to win another game. They've lost confidence in their team.

Nothing will stop McBaby now
He's going to have another outburst in the locker room to fire the team up if Edmonton falls behind.
Florida has the experience to play heavy with some rats on their team, but I'm just not sure if they're going to be as hungry as Edmonton this time around. It's just psychological.

Losing Hyman long-term would be catastrophic for the Oilers. Huge 200ft physical presence who reliably cleans up pucks around the crease. Exactly the kind of player they need to beat the Panthers and the perfect winger when they deploy McDrai. Perry can only do one of these things and Podz' hands are made of cement. Kane would probably have to fill Hyman's shoes which would deprive them of the big advantage of him and Nuge providing lots of secondary scoring. They don't really have any more quality black aces with Brown also injured/Arvidsson drawing in and would be forced to play a marginal player like Derek Ryan or watch Jeff Skinner get his shit shoved in by the Panthers. Possible that Knoblauch would even roll 7D if Ekholm is back for the SCF.

So imo good news for the haters.

Give the Oilers credit *gag* for going back to their run last year and really keeping the scoring chances down. Just like last post-season, if Skinner doesn't have to make too many dangerous saves, he can't burn you.

However, on the other side DeBoer teams continually run into this issue where their offence dries up. And in this case they're also prone to breakdowns which you can't have against McDrai. For all his regular season and post season success he's never been able to get over the hump and his teams have the same downfall over and over again.

I don't think the Oilers will be able to keep this up against a team that can actually generate offence. On the other hand, the Panthers aren't exactly air-tight. Adding to that, they often let their foot off the gas in the final because it's a hard way to play. And the Oilers have the gamebreakers to exploit that combination.

Going to be an interesting Finals, I didn't want either of these teams to make it again because they're both full of dirty whiners. As decent as Skinner has looked recently, if it comes down to it I bet on Bob over him all things being equal.

Also Cody Ceci is truly terrible. All those horrible Nurse-Ceci pairings last year were LOL but Nurse actually looks serviceable with a decent partner. Every time I see #44 on the ice I'm just wondering when the Oilers are going to score. Also, Heiskanen is just chasing dudes all over this own zone, creating mismatches and coverage switches that the offence usually has to try to manufacture LOL.

Other than the Panthers, the only team who really put up any resistance to Edmonton the last two years was the Canucks... how annoying.

I don't see how they don't get it done this year. Ugh.

There, I said it. McDavid deserves a Cup.
I will never understand this. He has everything, why does he "deserve" a Cup? It's boring when the obvious happens.

IMO Dallas didn't even play that well in the first two rounds. I thought COL and WPG controlled the run of play more.

The pace and just pure hustle of EDM's forwards has also been impressive. Almost CAR/FLA-esque in giving Dallas no time/space to make the skill plays their forwards want to make.

I’m not even necessarily mad at Edmonton or Florida winning but just the overall pathetic showing from Dallas and Carolina makes it’s just boring and lame to watch. Worst playoffs in some time
I kinda get this with the CAR-FLA series, but to my eye every DAL-EDM game has been highly entertaining and very fast-paced. I thought the quality of play last night was excellent, especially in the first two periods with both teams trading chances and whipping the puck around. It was high calibre. Dallas probably should have had the lead.

Final score makes it look not close, but it was a 1-goal game the entire way until the empty netters at the end.

They haven't even played well since March.

They lost 7 games in a row to close off the regular season and surrendered near 5 goals a game in that stretch.

Winnipeg is really unlucky that Hellebuyck was shit. He was starting to figure it out in the Dallas series but the damage was already done by Game 4.

Their metrics took a nosedive since Miro went down. They were near bottom of the league in surrendering shots/chances after that. Oettinger papered over a lot.
