Also downgrading Rantanen during a contending window is chefs kiss. Well deserved. No doubt the hockey ops in Carolina is smart but being too smart is going to be their demise.

I still maintain their best move at the time would have been trading with us and trading for Miller, and keeping Necas. So more or less just adding to their team instead of downgrading it. From Necas to Rant to Stank who I do really like but he isn't Necas or Rantanan

I'm sure it isn't happening, but his wife is from here and NYI look to be hurtling toward a rebuild so I don't see any reason why he wouldn't come back if it was on the table.
I don't think Bo's wife is from BC. Think they are both from Ontario. If they are, I think they'd rather remain in NYI as that is a much closer flight for the grandparents of their children to visit or for her and Bo to bring the kids to see.

Ah, I had thought he had met her here but I could be wrong.

For Carolina, at some point, you just need to push your chips in. They always play the long game, which I guess after all of those years with Karmanos, they feel that is better for the market than pushing in and then being down for multiple seasons.

Isles in a good spot now: Potentially good GM, #1 pick, and they will likely re-sign Dobson. They'll re-tool instead of rebuild, but doing so with that pick will be a lot easier.

The Horvat speculation feels good, but it's not happening. I think he hates this management team and I don't think they would double back on their decision.

Dobson is a year out of UFA. So, Darche and the Isles need to be clear on the plan for the team. Dobson is 25 this year. So, if the plan is a rebuild (I doubt it), then he wouldn't return to the PO until he's 30.

Dobson is RFA with arbitration rights at the end of this year.

NYI is not rebuilding imo. Dobson will be re-signed and Darche will try to get them back in the playoffs next year.

Aside: A friend of mine recommended that Tavares go back to NYI if TOR doesn't re-sign him. I could see it with Nelson gone...

Id take Bo back, Isle are probably one of few teams that would be okay with 15th pick as a centrepiece too instead of hockey trade

If people are saying contention for the Cup is the goal, then it seems to me that pathway will have to go through McDavid, and as much as I am a JT Miller detractor, he was the guy the Canucks needed to counter McDavid and take the oil to seven games

I know, I know, that ship has sailed

And hit an iceberg

And sunk

And there was room on the door for Jack too

But then the door would have sunk a few more inches under their combined weight, and both Jack and Rose would have died of hypothermia, lying in a few inches of near freezing water

It's just so tragic

That would probably have been keeping Rantanan, but even then I think they would have been a better team with Necas AND Miller then just Rantanan. Rantanan is the better player, but as a team with Miller and Necas... thats better.

Not only did it sink, but they sent a sub to take a look at it and that imploded...

thus, a year out from UFA. If he doesn't like the direction the Isles are going, he doesn't need to commit to them. Telling them that he won't do a long term deal would be enough for them to trade him in the off-season.

But, I agree, that they won't blow it up for a rebuild. That would require trading half the roster, the upper half.

I am happy the Panthers are a huge wake up call for people who think grit and size doesn't matter in the playoffs.

Our top 6 would be broken, bruised and cucked by the Panthers for 4 games.

It is a reminder that enforcement of the rules is optional in the playoffs.
