I like that the Peg is getting some of their UFAs re-signed.

For a place that "no one wants to go to", they sure seem to keep alot of their players.
Well, once you’ve been in a place for a while most will tend to stay. That’s why they are a draft and develop team because you’re not likely to convince players who have no ties there to sign. Get them in there when they are young and get used to the city. Build up ties to it.

That Pionk deal is pretty good value relative to the Chychrun contract. Nice work from Winnipeg.
Makes the Marcus Pettersson deal look like a steal. He has scored more at 5 on 5 the last two years than both of them. Better defensively, and on the pk. I like the Pionk deal more than Chychrun. And they couldn’t break up Pionk and Samberg with how good they have been this year.

The Pettersson contract is much better than Pionk’s, but it highlights how defenders who put up points (rightly or wrongly) get paid, even if the difference is just an extra 10-15 points per season because they get second unit PP time.

Pionk has averaged 40 points per 82 games since he joined the Jets whereas Pettersson is at 25 points / 82.

Remains one of the few obvious market inefficiencies that can be taken advantage of. When I saw Matt Roy’s contract with Washington last year I was shocked he got so little.

Bodes well long term for the Canucks to maintain a good blue line at a very reasonable cost with Junior and Willander.

Absolutely.. Junior has that boring thing going for him where unless he just snaps into a 40 point dman in 3 years he could be a fair market long long term piece

Not sure how many of you are old enough to remember Dixon Ward…

His son, Taylor, scored his first NHL goal last night as a 27 year old unheralded rookie playing his first NHL game.

For those that don’t remember (or are too young) Dixon was a later draft pick for the Canucks that put up some big numbers in College and then had a nice rookie season with the Canucks, but then things kind of went in the crapper after that.

The first father-son duo in Kings history

Sweet moment as Dixon lets the tears flow after watching his son score:

Full story on what happened to Charlie McAvoy at the 4 Nations Faceoff. The Minnesota Wild team doctors administered a shot resulting in a staph infection. Yikes.
