Calgary finishing 9 will be glorious
Literally the worst thing to do to their fan base. Seriously need top end talent. Instead, they got a high end goalie that'll scupper any meaningful rebuild going forward, all the effort this year, on the backs of their 30+ vets, just to get the 16th pick, and no playoff revenue. This type of fate usually happen to us.

After tonight's results the Canucks can either pick 5th or 15th. If they win the lottery, with the 0.5% chance as you said, they move up 10 spots to 5th. Otherwise they will pick 15th.

Nah, with this franchises draft lottery luck we’re locked in at 16 already.

There was a post about us laughing at Travis Green and how he was only coaching what he was given. I agree. If only Benning found a way to have Hamonic, Gaudette, and Highmore on the team at the same time. Benning failed Green there.

It would be very Canucks to actually win the lottery in a year where they don't move into the top 3 and the draft is considered weak.

They might actually, that would be a heartbreaker. Pulling for the Habs, would love to see more Canadian content in the playoffs.
Habs host Carolina tonight. CBJ hosts the Isles tomorrow. Habs need to get 1 point to clinch. So at least get to OT. Otherwise cbj can get in tomorrow but only with a regulation win. Otherwise they end up tied in points and RW but lose to Mon due to ROW tie breaker.

They have a really promising future defensive core but they got literally nothing upfront aside from Bedard and Nazar. Moore and Greene are alright but they need higher end guys. Reichel is bleh.

They’ll get one of Martone/Hagens/Misa though. That’s going to be huge.
Kantserov had a really good season in the KHL and Boisvert had a good freshman season at North Dakota. Plus they've got plenty of draft capital, whenever they decide the right time has come, to acquire some immediate forward talent.

I never liked Reichel so his disappointing season was no surprise to me and was already baked into my assessment.

They went after Guentzal last off season, but no chance a 29 going on 30 year old was signing up for 3 more years of losing. Not when he could get similar money from a PO team.

Chicago needs to make a big move, either via free agency if they can convince players to sign (they have been a 68, 59, 52, 61 points over these past 4 seasons or make a trade (and have the player agree to go there).

But, how many more losing/non PO seasons are likely still in the cards for them? Is it 2? Is it 3?

The thing that made Beagle contract suck was the term. 2 year term is easy to get rid of.
It would have been an iffy contract at 1 year. Probably the worst contract on its face Benning signed unless I'm missing something.

Brandon Sutter was the worst IMO, with honorable mention to Tyler Myers and Luca Sbisa. Beagle was pretty bad too....so many to choose from. Thanks Jim!
All those players were at least somewhat useful and signed though their late 20s or early 30s. Beagle did nothing and was signed through his age 37 season.

To each their own, but I didn't find Sutter or Sbisa very useful despite their ages and Benning was virtually negotiating against himself when offering those dumb deals...Myers as a $6m defenseman was abysmal. Beagle at least had the excuse of coming off a cup win where he had a relatively good playoffs.
