I doubt that. Marcus Pettersson has been great and an actual upgrade, he did not save the season. .560 before and .533 after. Many factors as always though.

I just mean 6 or 7 extra points and we're tied with St.Louis and Minnesota.

Could banishing Vinny and Noah at Christmas, even if the upgrade was only to Will Borgen, but especially to Mpetey not carve us out an extra 6 or 7 points?

I think it would have.

A coaching change like STL did? Lol.

Going to get ahead of this now…

I was hoping that I would have been able to express in a scrum setting versus a quote as I was going onto the ice and having it on the Internet 30 seconds later. I said what I said because I am frustrated , and any competitor who says that they would be happy in this position would be lying to you. After playing 3 games for the team and going 2-0-1 , I thought I maybe would have got an opportunity to jump into the lineup and help win some games

Did I help win those games I played, maybe? Maybe not? But we still won and collected some crucial points to climb the standings. I understand the youth movement in the nhl, and I’m getting older in hockey years and I may not play every single night. I feel like I can still contribute and help teams win. I know I’m not going to play 20 minutes a night in the role I’ve been in the past few years , but again I feel like I can still keep up and help a team in certain facets of the game.

I’m not trying to be the villain or gain attention or throw shade on the organization , I would have preferred a scrum setting to chat about how my time with the rangers has gone. As a player you have to respect the lineup decisions whether you like them or not, it’s just been frustrating not being able to compete and do what I love to do. I hope everyone understands.

DAMNIT! That website is annoying.

On the home page you can see the Canucks vs Wild box there. Click on the box to see the game score. There are three boxes Wild-Canucks-Full game score card.
Click on the full game score card and it will show you how they got the game score.
oh these things.. i'm not sure of how deep they go..
these cards put bad teams on individuals with colors and made up formulas imo

JFresh cards are basically a slightly more advanced version of using +/- to determine if a player is good or bad. They're absolutely worthless.
What's funny is I was going to make that joke about rather just looking at plus minus. If there was some way to correlate these fancy things to actual team stats as well try and find some sort of relation to what the player does but yeah right

It's larger sample sizes and some more specific stats but all of the same fundamental problems that come with using +/- as a stat apply to those stupid cards. They don't properly adjust for usage, they don't properly adjust for team strength, and they basically just tell you that players getting soft minutes on good teams are good and that players getting hard minutes on bad teams are bad.

I saw a quote once about Banksy that it was the sort of art that dumb people found dazzlingly brilliant and to me it applies to these things - they're the sort of thing that people who think they're smart but don't understand math or context think are super intelligent.

Last sentence in the first paragraph is what it boils down to

It's funny the last sentence in the second paragraph I was already starting to say that to myself while starting the second paragraph. You see it across all Industries basically just report makers

Hockey needs more conversations like this

Pendulum has swung way too hard since 2008, when even mentioning something like corsi had people yelling at you to watch the game.

Now, people are more concerned about winning the advanced stats game than the actual game on the ice, and cannot use the eye test to apply context to stats.

It was quite jarring coming back to the boards after a while away (thanks Benning) and see the complete flip in attitude amongst online fans. I'm a huge proponent of stats and have been for the longest time dating back to those early years, but too many people have forgotten how to add context and nuance to the data.

That Olivier dude from CBJ is a monster fighter and can also play hockey. He is the kind of player the canucks need.

What exactly does it say about the Canucks pro scouting staff that they had interest in Will Borgen??

I also can't see Drury or many others in the Rangers organization making it through the summer. That front office makes Benning look capable.

Thought that was JT lol

good lord refereeing sucks.. it just never ends
It's quite shocking how little consistency there is. So many teams absolutely burnt from one game to another. I wonder if it being so poor is somewhat planned, as it would certainly allow for more chicanery from above. It bothers me that I think this way. Shenanigans! lol

I’ve known for like the entirety of my life posting on hf that if montreal ever was good they’d be insufferable and i always found them to be the most out to lunch on the main boards

Demidov better be the goat because they’ve built up an insane hype train. I see them hyping up practice videos of him shooting on empty nets dude

I generally consider the Habs my secondary team after Vancouver, but good lord, yeah, the fan base is a *lot*.

Are you saying that the people that run multi million dollar sports franchises are dumb?

What position do you hold in a multi million dollar sports franchise?

I said I used to have a book and I would write down over the year things that people online would say. We'd have a nice laugh about it at the end of the year, it was just fun but the things that were said. If you paid enough attention, "the context" you are talking about would absolutely floor you. You would realize just how poor hockey analysis is.

I probably hate the Habs the most out of every team in the league and that's solely because of their fan base.

I'm happy that they are close to a playoff spot. At the start of the year their fans were "we are legit threat to contend for the division title" to half way through the year, "we should start tanking" then onto "we are going to win a couple rounds in the playoffs" to "we wasted a season" to now "with Ivan the rebuild is over and are going for the Stanley cup next year".... already.

Are teams using these?
These specific ones, I don't know. I do know of some people that have created ones that now hold positions on NHL teams. As been mentioned before that NHL teams has subscribers to these websites as well. Also mentioned that NHL teams have much more in depth than public ones.
