I hate Rogers but would also prefer that Amazon didn't own absolutely everything. Too bad TSN or somebody couldn't step up.
Well there are 11 billion reasons why TSN didn't.

I really wonder how Rogers is going to recoup that investment?

Flames keep sabotaging their rebuild. A few years from now they'll wonder why they can't get past the 1st round and why they are a mediocre team. Their best forwards by far are 34 and 31 years old. I'd take Jet Black's accidental tank over what the Flames are doing now. They should be a cautionary tale on what not to do during a rebuild.

They have no first rounder this year, they were never tanking, will see what happens next season.

We are only 4 pts ahead of Montreal…. Could the Canucks end up being the worst Canadian team this year?

It should be all about 'draft position' now. But you know the Canucks will probably find a way to blow even that. Wouldn't shock me if they won six out of their remaining eight meaningless games. It happens every time.

What a depressing season!

What's the real difference between picking 16th and 12th.... really? Jesus H. This place is going postal.

Sarcasm? You usually have a much more composed approach. Seems uncharacteristic of your demeanor.

Well last year it was Adam Jiricek at 16 and Zeev Buium at 12th.

I think it's a difference worth mentioning even if I'm not as sold on the Buium hype as much as others.

That trade is underrated as one of the worst trades in recent memory given that Montreal turned around and traded Monahan for a 1st and 3rd after a year and a half.
Walman and a 2nd to SJ who then got a 1st for him from EDM would top that. At least Cal was looking at it as a cap dump. Det had the room for Walman IIRC.

It was a long complicated conditions for that draft pick from Cal which appears that it will end up being Calgary's instead of FLA's.

Don't they have 2 first rounders this year with Florida and NJ?

Mind that wouldn't affect their "tank".
It would not. But, unless they moved out more guys, they had enough talent to be in the 7-10 mix most likely to begin the year vs in the bottom 5.

Wolf has been very good for them in Net, so they lost nothing in moving Markstrom.

Oh, for crying out loud...Rogers sucks so bad. I thought all the signs were pointing to Prime Video taking it over.

Big eff word. Bracing myself for 12 more years of Ron MacLean's awful, acid-baked poetry, and blind homerism from ex-Oilers.

f*** amazon. would way rather rogers, as shitty as they are, keep the hockey rights.

it would have been nice if bell could have gotten in on a slice of it, as tsn has been the largely better network over the last two decades, but whatever.

maclean will be retired in like 5 years or so. and in any case, even if prime had secured the rights, he probably would have been brought over, while guys like shorthouse would not have.

I don't really agree. I like what the Flames have done in stockpiling picks and prospects during a distressed market. They really didn't have much of a choice as dumping their older players would have cost them picks anyway. They have a strong defence and top notch goaltending, plus some decent youth forwards. I don't think they had the market for a complete gut/tank to the bottom and 7 year rebuild. They'll also be moving into a new arena in one seasons time. It's smiling Craig Conroy haha. He is such a try hard dude.

Yeah, that placing is pretty much irrelevant this season. They have one (3rd round) pick of their own in the first four rounds.

I would say not much this year. The picks after the top 7-8 are going to be all over the place. I think that bodes well for us if we are looking specifically for a center. There should be some nice looking players there in our range. Brady Martin (my fav), Carter Bear, or Jake O'Brien would be sweet. Braedon Cootes is also interesting. Even if we managed to lose the majority of our games I think we could mathematically drop 6 spots to 10th overall but realistically no lower than 12-13th. Not much difference.

Yup. Rogers sucks but at least they're a Canadian company and the Canadian NHL rights haven't been sold to one of the most evil US corporations. This is a case of the devil you know being a hell of a lot better than the one you don't. And it means we'll keep the broadcast team.
