i wouldn't be surprised if by july 1 the best free agents on the market are ekblad, bennett, boeser and pionk. i think there's a good chance tavares, marner, benn, burns, orlov, provorov, giroux, hall, nelson, ehlers, gavrikov, magiapane, gourde, smith and kane are all resigned by then. even bennett and pionk i think have a chance of staying where they are

yes gotta agree with Roy on that one.

8yrs 9 million for Chychrun wow....he played the contract game superbly
I was super high on him in his draft year and was hoping we’d pick him but I think that contract has the potential to be really bad. Caps are having a bounce back year that I don’t think will be repeatable going forward

I could see some trepidation for his lack of health and consistency on the back end of it but he's been unreal in Washington and will have over 35goals in his last 2 seasons. #1 D are gonna get big money going forward if not already

I don't know about the rest but if the Leafs lay another egg and lose in R1, I can see the appetite to go a different direction. I still think their D core is below average, and paying near $20m to extend Marner and Tavares will not help in that area. Maybe Tavares re-sign for a reasonable cap hit, but Marner will want a raise for sure.

It's already a pretty underwhelming list even if everyone went to free agency.

Would rather have Zadorov and the 13th OA vs MPettersson and a grab bag of replaceable parts. Zadorov might have even saved the 40 and 9 situation yet people here take shots at the departed who would be what we need to have a legit chance at a Cup in the short term

Paid a ridiculously steep price to stay in the hunt for 9th place. Would be so Canuck luck to watch the Rangers implode for this year then next

It's odd to me that people celebrate a missed opportunity to draft a young stud C for a 29yr old UFA Dman but i guess we can at least celebrate the fact they got a good contract for a good player

At some point we will have to rob Peter to pay Paul now that we need a quality top6 C

He came in at 18 in 2016. That took him to 2019. Got 6 years from there and got to 27 this coming off-season. Max term to 35. That's a big number and if that is what a #2 or something gets, that's a big contract. Hanifin and Hronek a year ago got $7.35 and $7.25 mill per max term. Is Chychrun $1.7 mill (aka 23% better than these 2?)

It's a timeline thing. Hughes is up in 2027, but a decision likely made around July 1, 2026. So, the pick from NYR wasn't going to change Hughes decision unless it's a lottery win by NYR.

Of the list you provided, I can see only Marner being the big one where max term of 8 years is key. Then, it drop to Ehlers, though I'm not really sure he'd warrant the Jets giving it to him. Bennett is going to be 29, and I'm not sure how his game will age if you went max term on him.

players hate moving and all of them are on winning teams (except provorov -- but columbus are improving) who have the cap space to reup them and nothing else to spend it on. i think we're gonna see the least free agent movement in like a decade. the only reason i think bennett is moving is because some stupid team will pay him like a star and the panthers aren't stupid and the only reason pionk moves is because he's an american in winnipeg

The very top players, it does matter getting that extra year. For everyone else, like Benn, if you are Dallas, you kind of have to treat him like TB did Stamkos. Benn is 36, so no reason to pay a premium for him to keep him. If he takes what he should as he's basically been worth is current contract for half of it, then they can look to keep him.

Some guys, it may make sense to hit the market. Gavrikov took a short term deal with LA and if the Chrychrun deal is an indication with the spiking cap, it may pay off for him by hitting the market. Provorov, with CBS, kind of depends on their depth. Werenski, Severson are signed for term. CBJ has some prospects in the pipeline, like Mentyhuck, Cuelsman, and so long. He might not get the term he's looking for with them. But, given that Peeke, Boqvist, Jiricek came and went, they may not want to bank that much on their prospects.

Just can't see us passing thr Blues. They are the hottest team in the league right now with an easy schedule. We have a better chance of Minny choking away than anything else.

They're just turbo rolling, all their top 6 guys got hot at the same time and they look great. Winnipeg is going to hate seeing them in the first round.

Long-term I'm still not sure about them, as it's tough to win a championship without a super star center or defensemen, but they have a lot of good pieces there.

Only silver lining is the Oilers gave them the guys who should be giving McDavid & Drai their second wind for basically nothing, and now they're playing like great top 6/top 4 guys.

We've seen this countless times before, where a team has to make up ground, even with an easy schedule, and are unable to do it. Massive pressure and there's a good reason they're lower in the standings. If the Canucks and the Blues had the same points and the Canucks held the tie breaker, you'd still be putting your money (not your heart) on the Blues this season.

For next year, management has to find a couple of players no one but MS and co are looking at. It's not going to be big names, it's going to be players who've underperformed and lack the chance to find a spot on their present teams rosters. Basically what the Blues did to the Oilers ... mid players with upside.

I'm not familiar enough with those kinds of players, but the Canucks' scouts are going to have to earn their money this offseason. Going on a spending spree on overvalued players is a fools errand and the prices they'll command will be crippling.

If Willander makes the team next season and excels, there's the possibility you could dangle him to the Devils to try and pry their #43 away. Willander would have to be heads above and would you really want to do that?

4-1 lol

Broberg and Holloway both played critical role in STL's emergence, imo. Still can't believe Oilers could not match the damn offer sheet...

OTT vs BUF just finished. Cozens 1 assist in the loss, Norris still out. A difference of 8 games played vs 3 games played.

Even though OTT lost, I'm betting they feel pretty good about that deal.
