The fact the Oilers couldn't see what was a strength with some speed and penalty killing and let it all go for aged vets who loooong ago scored at a decent rate, is shameful. If they had simply stuck with their guys, they'd be a threat this season. Instead, they're first or second round fodder.

Really?

From a Vancouver perspective, I find it f***ing hilarious.

Everyone talks about Holloway and Broberg, but people forget about Ryan McLeod who is an equally big of a loss. He’s young, fast, PKs, getting great defensive results on a horrid Buffalo team, and has 40 ESP this year. One of the best 3Cs in the game. I was one of the few people that liked this trade for the Sabres and hated it for the Oilers. McLeod was the type of player they needed, it’s just too bad Buffalo is going to Buffalo. For the Oilers, it’s not the value of the trade is bad. Savoie is not a bad return. But top end 3Cs are such an important piece for cup winning teams. To trade one away that was 24 and such an important part of their run, looked ready to breakout even further, and only cost 2.1m was such a big mistake

Yes i thought both those deals for Buffalo McLoed for Savoie and Byram for Mittlestadt were fantastic moves for a team flush with prospects who could easily replace the scoring they brought and added a high value young defenceman and a blistering fast top end 3C as he comes into his prime years.
So many were declaring victory for Colorado too as Mittlestadt came out rolling. Predictably he returned to what he is a poor #2C and a misplaced 3C. Pius Suter is currently a better player

Unfortunately the Sabres still suck at roster construction and continually ask too much of young players which as we know ends up in failure. Through osmosis if they can stop being idiots and trading away a Dylan Cozens when they have struggles they should become a good team...i doubt it. Pundits are already predicting Norris wont finish the year in Buffalo

As far as the Oilers last summer was reminiscent of Jimbo letting Tanev Markstrom and Toffoli walk and trying to replace them with Virtanen Holtby and Schmidt

Windows are pretty damn short in this league now. Have to imagine this is it for Edmonton.
To even have your window opened is not easy either. Need your core group but still be able to obtain players to fill out the rest of the roster and be able to turn over the players who end up leaving due to being capped out. Can't play a 3rd liner $4-5 mill, so need to let them leave for greener pastures and replace them with someone cheaper. All while trying to add at the TDL to bolster the roster.

Parayko coming back in the first round, there not going to be an easy out for Vegas or the Jets.

Refs giving St. Louis the win, 3 3rd period penalties to Colorado and blatant missed headshot on Colorado player. Too obvious from the NHL now isn't it?

It seems so obviously managed, but is it for league standings or gambling?

Looks like any team that wins 4 more games in the east might make it in, what a turtle race.
First Tie breaker is RW, which NYR leads handily by like 5 over the other clubs in that race, Unless they only win games in extra time for the rest of the season every other club will need to get 1 more point than them.

Canucks are behind in RW to Stl and Min.
