You might be surprised to find out how many people on that "one side" are part of the minority that you're concerned about.It's pretty clear a conversation can't be had without it devolving into a political discussion, and one side has their head in the sand because they aren't part of the minority.
So the rest of you can have fun.
Also, to start a conversation involving the political views of an owner, and not expect the following conversation to include politics seems a bit unrealistic.
