I'm not sure what Pettersson is worth at his current level of play.

Because even with a guy like Eichel, he had health issues obviously, but in the preceding two years he put up 18 points in 21 games and 78 points in 68 games. So there was a big health risk there, but his quality of play wasn't in doubt.

He's coming off an 89 point season, and had 102 the year before that. The time to trade him is before the 25 game mark before he officially becomes damaged goods. It will have been almost a calendar year of poor play by that point, and it becomes more than just a slump.

Eichel appeared to have a career-threatening injury at the time and never had the level of performance that 22-23 Pettersson brought.

He was also holding out to force a trade so Buffalo had less leverage than we would right now.

Ya, my point is Eichel had had 18 points in his preceding 21 games so he isn't similar to Pettersson in that he didn't have a sustained period of poor production.

It's heartbreaking. Build your team around a player who wants just that, only to watch him flatline for no apparent reason.

Regardless of what happens - I will always cherish the good times we enjoyed while he was here. The year we drafted him was Boeser's rookie season and we saw him annihilate the SHL. He stepped into the show and put up 10 goals in his first 10 games. And at the end of his Calder-winning season we drafted Hughes.

Seeing all three of them on the ice together in OT vs the Kings felt like we had truly arrived and moved on from the ghosts of 2011.

It's a shame to see how things might unfold...due to piss poor management for far too long, this core may never have had a true shot at competing. Timing is everything.

The list of interesting assets is just crazy :

Sillinger
Johnson
Fantilli
Voronkov
Chinakhov
Marchenko
Jiricek

Lindstrom
Brindley
Mateychuk
Del Bel Belluz
Elick
Svozil

Like, there's a lot of stuff there to put together a deal and there are absolutely zero cap issues in getting it done.

Jiricek, Silliger, Johnson, and one of the Russians. I like Brindley and Elick as well. Obviously Fantilli but that's a pipe dream I think. I would attach a first and Willander/Lekkerimaki but I doubt that's anywhere close.

Interesting nonetheless.

Yeah, I highly doubt that Columbus trades Fantilli or Anaheim trades Carlsson, even for Pettersson.

Both of those teams are still loaded with other interesting assets, though.

Yeah for sure. I keep thinking Anaheim is due to take a step but seems like a lack of true young leadership and overall direction I'm thinking. Like geez I really like their draft picks for the most part.

Bruins ran Thornton and Seguin out of town because they thought they were too soft and uncommitted you think they will want Pettersson....not a chance. With Neely and Sweeney? Zilch

I remember high school dances, when this song would come on you made sure it was someone you really liked. Didn't want to spend 11+ min pity dancing with a sweaty ugggoo you didn't like.

slowly walking down the hall faster than a cannonball where were you while…?

Same. They really are just a little too inexperienced at some key positions still.

Nice looking young core. With a few smart additions and a couple years could be a dangerous team

Columbus' treasure trove of young players, prospects, cap space, and GM are the only reason I'd even entertain a Pettersson trade. I'm not keen to trade him but they might be the only team in the league with the assets and means to acquire him while keeping the Canucks contenders and extending the window.

I put the Pettersson contract in the same class as Huberdeau's in Calgary. Basically 'untradeable'. Far too much money and term.

So for the foreseeable future, the Canucks will have to live with whatever Pettersson brings to the table on a nightly basis.

But as the games go by, and if the funk which started at the 55-60 game mark last season and which has spilled over into the first 10 games this season continues, the Canucks are in a world of trouble.

Uh no. Huberdeau is 31 with 6 more years on his deal. Pettersson is 25 (almost 26) with 7 years left. Pettersson is better and younger. They aren't remotely similar.

If Pettersson hits the market, 31 other teams will be calling. When Calgary calls about Huberdeau, nobody answers the phone.

Thirty one other teams won't be calling.

Maybe half the teams, probably less, will end up with the desire, assets and cap space to be seriously interested in ep.

I don't see a clear path to a Pettersson trade with CBJ. Their pieces are nice on paper but they don't help us much within our specific window of Hughes' contract. I think there are other potential partners/assets that are more appealing:

OTT - B. Tkachuk
CAR - Necas, Svechnikov
BUF - Cozens, Power, Byram

I'm sure they are not as lazy as some people here are and most will call if he is on the market. Surely all 31 teams will interested in at least seeing the price.

Most teams are not in position to do the deal. You are correct there but that has little to do with Petterson himself.

It's always surprising how quick people are to throw good players under the bus only for them to remind us why they have the attention they do. I'm sure he'll rebound and hopefully it's for us.
