We love to refer to these players as Canadian but Marchessault has spent his entire adult life in the US. These guys have fully assimilated to US culture.

Yeah, I'm sure he would have been cheering himself hoarse for the Soviet national anthem in the 1972 Summit Series to honour the Russian soldiers who died to protect the world in world war 2. Surely there's no ignorance from Jonathan here.

You can see Connor Bedard is a superb talent out there, but right now he's a 'man on an island'. There's absolutely nothing around him.

And it's hard to see things getting any better any quicker. You can see he's get increasingly frustrated out there. If things don't get better in a hurry in the Windy City, it makes you wonder how long the Hawks will be able to hold on to him.

Hawks are loaded on guys who are in the tail end of their prime but aren't particularly good, then the development of some of the young guns haven't gone well and most of the others are still too raw. They're in a weird place, really need to be active on the TDL to ship out guys like Bertuzzi and Dickinson and identify the ones who will actually help them transition into winning territory. Can't just collect veterans on a roster expected to suck then be surprised they're happy to keep collecting paychecks.

He was unfortunately perceived to be a generational player when his ceiling is Patrick Kane or Mitch Marner. That's no knock on him but the reality is he cannot carry a franchise out of mediocrity.

A couple of theri high draft picks from 2022 onwards are smaller/lighter forwards like Nazar/Moore. Add in the sub 5'10 Bedard, they do need to add some bigger bodies around them.
