Are there any recent instances of top ten draft selected players going on waivers and then turning into assets of any significance?
Thomas Hickey, but he probably shouldn't have been drafted that high. And before that, probably Manny Malhotra?

Usually these guys get every opportunity to shine as a top 10 pick, whereas the waived non-high draft picks that turn out well do not usually get those opportunities and slip through the cracks.

Nope. Nothing in the last 15 years.

The biggest 'success story' in that period of a guy top-10 pick who hadn't reached the NHL by the end of his ELC is probably Derrick Pouliot, which should tell you something. Boqvist isn't exactly that as he did play some on his ELC but high draft picks are usually given so much rope by the teams that drafted them that there's no real hope if they haven't managed to make anything of it by this age.

adam boqvist is a very good offensive defenseman. the problem is that he's getting sheltered minutes and still getting ventilated defensively. i don't think it's a fit for this coaching staff.
He’s 5’11, no way we are claiming him.

Arena = Hive.

Team is buzzing. swarming......a ton of cheesy puns lets goooooo
Charlotte Hornets have cornered the market on bee nicknames.
Sting - WNBA in Charlotte. Swarm - G League team out of Greensboro.

I think Utah was declined for Venom. Which could have gone with a bee logo.

martin gelinas for us… 31 years ago o_O

but actually the only post-lockout example i can think of is thomas hickey, the 4th overall pick who couldn’t crack LA’s stanley cup winning D but ended up with a solid career as a bottom pair guy for over half a decade. honestly as a smaller guy with some puck moving ability who learned how to primarily take care of his own end, he is probably best case scenario for brannstrom or boqvist.
