Another nauseating and maudlin piece from Mark Spector about why McJesus has to take matters in his own hands......because the league won't do anything about all the abuse he receives.

At one time, the Canucks were one of the most hated teams in the NHL. But that mantle has now passed to the Oilers. They're the only Canadian team I'd hate to see win another Stanley Cup.

Isles are at 15,870 in average attendance for an arena that seats 17,250 for hockey, so about 1350 seats short of sellouts most of the time.

Isles have been in around the 8-12th worst team overall in the NHL for most of the season.

He should take matter into his own hands and cross check heads more often. More practice the better

In this game he did take matters into his own hands, and this is the result. If he wants to go further, there's an entire league of Gudases Wilsons and Troubas that will happily make him lose control of his bowels and bladder.

The league can shield him as much as they want, but it takes is one hit from one single crazy goon player like what Cooke used to be to take you out.

Best way forward? McDavid should make full use of his talent and let the goons (from his team or others) do their goon things, while he does his. And the league should have, dare I say it, STANDARDS that are maintained fairly.

Who does Edm have that can step up when it gets chippy with McDavid on the ice?
Kane? When he was younger, not sure a 32 going on 33 year old Kane is going to do that. 39 going on 40 year old Perry? Nurse?

That's what Edm has for their grit/edge factor on their roster.

That whole fanbase/media is absolutely insane. It's the weirdest fanbase in pro sports.

I've been saying this for years - like, I hate Calgary and their fans are assholes, but it's typical rival stuff and it's mostly in the same way that our fanbase are assholes. Edmonton fans are something else entirely. They're just a collection of total freaks and weirdos.

Probably the result of decades of exposure to Mark Spector's writing, if his latest piece is anything to go off of.

"Was McDavid's on ice assault a reasonable response? We asked notoriously violent player and current teammate Corey Perry and you'll never guess what he thought!"

Saw this on Facebook, and it precedes the Kraken so it may not be 100% up to date, but I still found it kind of fascinating. I just assumed what the Canucks do (discussed in this forum sometimes), and what I’ve also heard about Ottawa (confirmed here) was the norm… but it isn’t.

I love the variation from the no-effort Blackhawks approach to the high-effort Canucks/Sens approach. The funniest has to be the NYI/STL offering them to the player. Like WTF is he going to do with 200 ballcaps?

i like how tampa’s policy is to use it as a strategy to hustle more hat sales

the minnesota one is interesting. part of me is like, right on, cancer ward kids deserve new hats that haven’t been who knows where and through god knows what. while the kid of immigrants in me is like, hey don’t waste a perfectly good. possibly lice-infested hat.

For now yeah Perry and Nurse and Kane (when he's back). They can do what they are able, which is not to say it'd have to be something like Semenko all day everyday, but they should be able to provide at least some kind of response.

No matter what, asking McDavid to embrace the extra-curricular stuff by himself will do nothing but harm - goons will chance an excuse to truly hurt him, it will force the league's hand to crank down on him if shit is too egregious, and it will cause more stress to his teammates.

Then again, this type of brilliance coming from that cokehead lunatic Spector is hardly surprising.
