Based on the projection, the cap will be like $94/95 mill. So, talking around $19 mill vs the cap before it really jacks up (expectation). He could have had $15 mill on his current deal but took 1/6 less at $12.5 mill.McDavid leaving the Oilers is a fun fantasy but there's a reason that they hired his agent to run the team.
This is McDavid's team. The only real question is how much he extends for. If it's a penny less than 20% of the cap, he's done them a huge favour.
But, with the expected increase in the cap the high end will soon be $20 mill plus.
