I think we get too obsessed with defining line numbers. If he is our number 4/5 forward that’s probably the question. If he lines up as the “3C” but is a top PK guy and on PP1, then it’s probably fine. Won’t say he will be any of those things, but was more thinking in terms of if we kept lindholm or even Hirvat.

From the last thread. I think those are good points but it still comes down to utilization right? A sure-fire fit on PP1? Worth a premium. RHC who can win faceoffs on the PK like Lindholm? Yes provided he's actually good at killing penalties. Ability to play C and Wing? That's a plus.

But even strength linemates and utilization matters too. I recall when JT Miller was first acquired there were questions about the offense he brings. At the time he was a winger and I made the point that every single season he would end up playing the 3C role and his offensive production would go down. Similarly, if Chytil is playing the role of 2C (with wingers that often go with that) then his offensive production would be higher than if he's playing the role of 3C (with wingers that often go with that). Of course if you're playing 3C and playing with Garland and Joshua (last year's version) that's the equivalent of playing with 2nd line wingers.

I just think inevitably that $7M 3C is not likely to produce like a $7M player and we'll blame it on linemates and utilization.

I mean not really disagreeing, just talking about how we really don’t know yet, and it’s whet we should be trying to figure out in the future.

And let’s use JT for this as that’s who you used. It felt like we got him originally to play with Bo, like we would run with Petey and Brock, then Bo and JT… then we suddenly had great success with the lotto line, the. Injuries and we started to see JT down the middle more and it really worked going 3 deep down the middle. If we found guys like that, I would be all for it. Having that type of strength down the middle would win championships.

But, I don’t think anyone really saw it like that when it started. Sounds like you thought JT would be the 3C and he really was fwd 3/4 (ended as fwd 1/2).

I think that’s kind of important to figure out. Obviously remain flexible. If there is a 2nd line C available that should be a priority. But if we can find a high end 3C and keep our pick that’s good too.

I believe there is a quote from Green that they were looking for a guy to play with Petey and Boeser at the time of the trade.

Huh? What made you think that? I am saying that some posters were critical of JT’s offensive production and I recall pointing out that his production dropped when he was inevitably used as a 3C. JT had then a career year when he played a top 6 winger role without spending much/no time as a 3C

Maybe I am wrong but weren’t his two best years playing centre?

But also I think I misunderstood what you were saying. That’s why I had noted the 3C.

I wonder how badly Shea Theodore is hurt?

Vegas is not looking like the powerhouse they were at the beginning of the season. Perhaps the Canucks can find a way to leapfrog LA.

Now we’re talking business, Ern. I love this part of the sport the most. Playing to win.

Canes acquiring then trading Rantanen before the TDL would be something.
Hmm......According to Canucks Army, Vancouver will have close to $10m at the TDL. Of course acquiring Rantanen would force the Canucks to blow up their prospect pool and dump some high picks.

And even then, I'm not sure they'd ever have the assets the Hurricanes would be interested in. Probably better to wait until July 1st to do some 'big game hunting' on the UFA front.

I see Vegas is being linked to the Vlad Taresanko and Ryan O'Reilly.....typical Vegas deadline day pickups. But if Theodore is out for an extended period--that's a huge hole to fill.

Well, Canucks would be insane not to have RoR #1 on their wishlist IMO. So yeah, makes sense Vegas had the scent already.

I could be wrong, I'm very not in the know, but I openly wonder how many times the bidding goes like this, how often does the first caller to inquire win the asset?

You worry too much. I'm sure he will be magically healed by the miracle of bullshit one day before playoff.
