Devils give up the 1st goal for the 43rd time this season. Tough way to play.

That was a big win for the Devils, given how hard their schedule is in the coming weeks. And the Pens may have saved their season with last night's comeback win.

On an unrelated note, what is going on with Oettinger? Dude has been a potato this year. Goalies are indeed voodoo lol

It sure was. They're my pick for disappointing team of the year. While I didn't really buy into the serious contender status many were handing them I did consider them a playoff lock.

Almost all of these old Leafs cast-offs are in similar situations. Engvall stinks, Johnsson I think it out of the league entirely, Kapanen, Mikheyev is a 30 point guy, Campbell doesn't need a description, on and on. It's basically Hyman, who has turned himself into a great player, and a bunch of mediocrity.

In fairness, the league is filled with a bunch of mediocre players.

The average player plays 320ish odd games.

Kaps at 438, nearly 0.5 PPG. This is his 7th season.... that's a long career, unless you are elite.

Engvall is at 296 games, also 7th season. He's mediocre, but teams need 30 point players too...

Mikheyev is kind of the same...

Point though, you don't pay them $4.75 mil like Mik, or give them seven year contracts like Engvall... that's just dumb. Both Engvall and Mik would be useful players on our team, and probably improvements over some, but not anywhere near their current contracts... Like $2 and $2.5 max for shorter term.

Mediocre is ok... they are a good portion of your lineup.

Carter Verhaeghe is one worth lamenting missing out on a lot more than most others imo.

Yep. Most mid tier players often only play like 150-300ish games. Need to shake off that inclination that everyone plays until their mid 30s

Surprising about Kap .. seems like his growth just stagnated after being dealt by the Leafs. He had a strong two way game, speed, and enough of a finishing touch to produce better IMO
I didn't really think he had much of a finishing touch at all. Just a ton of speed. He and Mikheyev might have had a contest going, for most breakaways, with fewest goals.

Verhaeghe, Hyman, Marchment (most surpising one) were some massive losses. Hopefully the same doesn't happen with McMann. I think he's the next one for big growth.

He will be 28 going into next season. He is having a nice little stretch here, but it's in his best interests to get as much as possible from his next contract, and I don't think that will be from the Leafs.

If he is getting paid less than or about the same as Nylander/Marner for 8 years then... I don't even know what to say.....

I'll guess 12.5m AAV. I got the vibe Pettersson was making the Canucks sweat, didn't believe he was forcing a move as an RFA.
