Around the League: News/Notes

I’m no expert on the Penguins, but it sure feels like adding Karlsson threw off something about their whole deal. Not sure what but they just haven’t felt the same with him in the mix.

If this is actually due to 200k

I’m done with this team under Franky

@Kevinsane everyone getting fed up now..

I know there’s no love lost.. but you could have at least said a couple nice words for Sedins or something before you said your final goodbye!!

I loved the Sedins! I just absolutely despise the Aquilini crime family. I don’t dislike the city, as I grew up there, nor the fans, nor the players themselves, but I want to see that utter POS go to bed upset and alone with his Twinkies after every single Canucks game.

A thing of beauty to see the Leafs slaughtered on home ice tonight. Their top two lines were a combined -9. If you live in Canada, as I do, you are force fed the Leafs 24/7, 365. The same company owns both Sportsnet and the Leafs, so the homerism isn’t even disguised. It becomes nauseating after a while, so to have the talking heads have to explain yet another choke job becomes music to the ears of every fan who hasn’t been brainwashed.

I had a different reaction, but I can certainly empathize with the sentiment, especially how insufferable the Ontario media can be. But I blame myself actually for beginning the long curse, 57 years and counting. I came to Canada from the States the year after the Leafs won the Stanley Cup for the last time, 1967. Newly Canadian, I saw no reason why their dominance couldn't still continue; after all, at that time, only Montreal had won more Stanley Cups (oddly enough, this is still true). It was expected.

But the nucleus in 67/68, still formidable on paper, was aging in a hurry: Mahovolich, Armstrong, Keon, Horton, Bower. And they missed the Playoffs in '68--remember, this is the first year of NHL expansion. That is how far back the curse goes. Not only have the Leafs not won a Stanley Cup in all these years since then, they have not even been to a Stanley Cup during more than a half a century.

They are not my team any more, but I would still covet a Stanley Cup championship for Toronto. But it's not like a burning issue or anything close to it. I, too, have to laugh ruefully at the team's neverending futility. Nothing ever seems to change except the faces. The debacles become almost hilariously predictable. I was 23 when I brought this curse to Toronto and I am 80 now. That is a long time. The above cartoon comes very close to fitting me to a tee.

I feel like every sports fan should get to see their team(s) win at least 1 championship in their lifetime.

I got football, baseball and basketball covered , even though I don’t really watch the last two anymore.

The Sharks had 1 losing SC cup but am hoping the Kraken have better luck.

I’ve got soccer (Timbers) and hockey (Devil’s from before) covered. I don’t follow NFL at all, but WSU is never winning a national championship and the Blazers got theirs before I was born. Then there’s the Mariners… I actually feel like my chances of seeing any of my teams win another championship before I die are extremely slim, except perhaps the Timbers.

There’s a definite difference between a run that narrowly missed a championship and one that hasn’t even had a chance. I’ve seen the Blazers, Timbers and Devils play in a championship game or series and lose. I’d take those over the situation with the Mariners… every day. Hope matters, and the Mariners are only capable of so much hope before dousing its fanbase in gasoline and lighting a match. The Kraken, well, I do see a bit more hope there, but that’s more the 16 team playoff set up than the actual club.

Man, I hear you guys. I watched the Sonics win, the Seahawks win, but as far as the Mariners or Kraken go, not even close yet.

When I was a Canucks fan 1994 felt worse to lose than 2011 did.

SB 48 was such a strange and wonderful feeling for me. Was already in my 40's and had never experienced having a team win it all.

I contend that the '95 Sonics were the best team in the league, and would have gotten there but OH NO some guy named Jordan just had to come back to the NBA.

So "Tre" is going to lose another star to UFA lol.

IS it true Marner blocked a trade to go to CAR for Rantanen?
