The Leafs aren't a hockey team, they are a clothing and merchandise company that occasionally plays hockey. They exist only to sell insanely overpriced tickets and jerseys to blindly loyal fans. That's why they don't change anything despite collapsing every year. They don't need to. Their owners get richer every year, their players sign massive contracts that pay out regardless of how they perform in the playoffs, and they have no shortage of fans wanting to give them money to support them because "this is the year".

The only thing that will actually change things in Toronto is if the fans boycott the team, stop buying jerseys and hoodies, and stop going to games. And we all know that's not going to happen, because as soon as the team drops prices on anything, there will be an inrush of fans who could previously not afford it, and then they'll be right back to where they were again. Management is going to make changes only because they have to, as Marner and Tavares are UFA. If it weren't for that, they would simply put the same Core Fore back on the ice next season, and rotate the bottom six.

Leafs choking is always a fun thing to watch. I assume they will be blown up this summer. Through it all the most consistently dangerous leaf is Nylander. If you're looking at the core 4 on that team, it's Nylander you should want the most.

Canes vs Panthers...not sure where my money lies on this. Tkachuk is clearly hurt and that is a big issue. Panthers aren't nearly as scary with a 50% Tkachuk.

Dallas vs Oilers...re-match. But this timeDallas has Rantanen who I have to imagine is going to be fired up going against McDrai.

Had we just drafted Nylander, we could have had a core of Pettersson, Nylander, Boeser, Demko and Hughes. Good chance that core makes at least the conference finals.

Random thought, go after nylander.
But it’s extremely unlikely he is going to be available

Nylander is the only one out of the core 4 that actually produces in the playoffs so yeah he should not be available.

Feels like they really should explore trading Matthews as insane as that sounds.

The thing is, it’s obvious what they are gonna do because marner is a UFA.

Its 100% going to be him.

Random thought 2: I wonder what Marner is thinking right now for not accepting the move to carolina for rantanen?

Carolina would be even better, marner had a even better chance winning a cup as eell.

It sure does think that he did it to f*** over the leafs, or simply he just wanted to win with only Toronto

This is pretty much the same for every Canadian team, and the ever lengthening drought of cups in the North is evidence to this. Making the playoff is always the goal, and the cup seems incidental. The Canadian franchises exist to support the struggling teams in the US.

Darren Dreger is probably the biggest homer on TSN, guy just making excuses for the Leafs

Right? Every single bit of criticism O'Neil and Corrado made Dreger couldn't wait to rebuttal. I don't always like O'Neil but his pushback on Dreger saying, "102 points. That's great. You don't win" was fantastic. Who cares what they do in the regular season when none of them can get shit done in the playoffs.

I think every Leafs fan in existence would rather be a wild care team that goes on a legit run with "worst" players than yet another 90+ point regular season Marner and 60 goal scoring Matthews who promptly no show.

ROUND 2 IS OVER. @Mr. Canucklehead. Time for ROUND 3 thread. Lol.
