Around the League 47 Vancouver Collects All the Petterssons

Time for Tampa to repay that favor for not going after them for tampering.

(Not that the league actually cares about tampering)

Tampering thing aside, It would be amusing to see a player NOT sign with Tampa after last summer when there was a lot of complaining about how the Florida teams unfairly take advantage of the tax situation (and the weather) from fans of Canadian teams.

The Howard situation seems to be more involved with the player wants NHL time now but the Lightning don't have a roster spot for him at the moment and would either have to give him 4th line minutes or stash him in the AHL and the player doesn't like either scenario. In some fairness to Tampa, Michigan State was an early out in the tournament and as such was kind of thrown for a loop. But even then, the Lightning are kind of set forward-wise.

Regardless, Tampa is a "destination" market but even then they like everyone else aren't immune to something like this. Will be interesting to see what kind of return they fetch for a Hobey Baker winner.

Perpetual bubble team. Even a real rebuild didn't bring success with any consistency.

The future outlook is similar. Too much talent to be bad. Not enough to be good. Odds of drafting their way out of it are against them.

Imagine telling someone in 2010 that Jeff Skinner will make his playoff debut in 2025 with, the Edmonton Oilers.

Regarding Calgary, if they ever got that new arena they've been needing since forever, they might have a shot. Maybe not, but I can't imagine a UFA really wanting to play 41 times in that dump. I toured it in 2002, it was a dump then.

Imagine telling someone that Jeff Skinner will make his NHL playoff debut on the same day as the 2020 3rd round pick that was part of the package he was traded for

He'll be our #3 next year...

My favorite part of the Columbus Washington game was the Voronkov penalty.

Voronkov got a 10-minute misconduct with less than 10 minutes left in the game, so the official sent him to the lockerroom. However, they never informed the Columbus coaches of the penalty, just the player, expecting Voronkov to relay the message.

The problem is, Voronkov speaks very little English and apparently thought when the official said “10”, he was just referring to Voronkov’s number. So the next shift he was available, Columbus sent him back out there. He played a shift or two before the official noticed he was out for a faceoff and gave Columbus a penalty for ineligible player. The bench was cracking up when it was explained.

Somebody needs to give Voronkov some eye black for a mustache disguise a la Bobby Valentine.

Stars lose 5-3, but the real story of the night was Jamie Benn.

Benn has been stuck at 399 career goals for 15 games now. He's had so many chances for the 400th, but cannot get it to go. Tonight, he had a gaping net and hit the post (and off that post hit, Utah went down the ice and scored their only even-strength goal of the evening). Benn also scored in the final minute of the game, but had it called back for goaltender interference. Thus, he remains at 399.
