Around the League 47 Vancouver Collects All the Petterssons

The 24-25 Rangers have to be one of the most disappointing teams post-lockout. Roster turnover isn't an excuse for this. Neither is injury.

Off years across the lineup. Or are they? So many core players in their 30s in New York. Maybe this is just the cliff.
Happy to see.

I’ve been following Tro. He is having a good year but a big drop off from LY. Were the canes right about him as he ages? Rags goalie starts his new/big contract next year as they start a decline.

Btw: Markstrom is playing great today. With the injuries, Devils have morphed into a defense first team. Canes need to be wary if Markstrom goes in a heater.

Watching Tro he's still the game guy he was here. What's changed is the rest of the team crashing back to reality. Age is catching up to Bread, Kreider is back to no longer being Cam Neely 2.0, Zib has fallen off a game cliff. And that was a team overly reliant on the power play that had poor depth to begin with.

Trocheck is a complimentary player. He's been largely stapled to Panarin as a Ranger. If Panarin's production drops, Trochek's will follow.

I never have understood the handwringing about his loss. We saw how he performed in the playoffs with a greater burden here.
It’s always been about what we replace him with. Who was he playing with during that playoffs? Young Necas who even now is generally easily contained in the playoffs. We’re not a high scoring team so I don’t understand when we analyze playoff stats and link it to a players quality. We need a right center and if we have one who can score a bit it take a huge load off of Aho and puts Staal where he belongs. There’s very few replacements out there.

I don’t get the Panarin comments at all. All players other than the elite count on other players for offense. No one thinks he’s a huge point guy. He’s a righty 2C and we replaced him with KK, which is an issue still. We’d be better with Tro of course, but we’d also be better with any righty better than Kk. I don’t think there’s been much hand wringing about Tro lately. We beat that horse a couple of years ago.

I thought our arena was particularly inundated with Penguins fans, due to the fact that so many Yinz scattered to Raleigh in escape of Pittsburgh's economic collapse. Unless Dallas was similarly a beacon of hope in the 90s, it seems Yinz are simply a plague which has infested all prospering every burgeoning metropolises. Only the switching on of a (goal) light (for the home team) causes the pestilence to scatter.

Don't mind me...just stretching my literary legs on a coffee-fueled Sunday morning.

Couple of years ago I watched Penguins vs Kings in LA and there was a noticeable roar when the Pens scored.

Congratz , but the heck is this , middle of a game , they roll the carpet , it feels wrong , feels like bush league to me , after the game or after the period

That goal was much, much more important than the meaningless game. Totally appropriate to stop and recognize the moment, especially with the whole world tuning into the broadcast at that moment.

And they did the same thing when Gretzky broke the previous goal record, so it wasn’t unexpected.

It’s also so wild to think that this record was long thought to be unbreakable…when in reality, it’s the career point total record that’s truly unbreakable. Getting almost 900 goals is near impossible. Getting almost 900 goals and almost 2000 assists? What the f***?

I truly never thought I’d live to see the goals record broken. I KNOW I won’t see the points record broken. They’d have to introduce a 3-point line or something.

The fact that a player could score as often as Ovechkin did for 20 years in a row, defying all standards for injury and aging, and still just barely nudge past Gretzky’s goal record, speaks to how nearly impossible this was. The fact that Gretzky’s actual strength was assists and not goals… mind blowing.
