  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Oh I think you are misremembering the past a bit.

We didn't make playoffs for JR's last five years here.

So the second half push was even worse.

We went from "great" to "meh" draft pick, and didn't even have playoffs to enjoy.

God I do not miss the Karmanos days
I think we agree: Lou's version is better because while they are delaying a rebuild, they at least sneak into the playoffs.

On paper, it does, but Chychrun is only going to be 27 when the contract starts, meaning an 8 year extension is almost all prime years except maybe the final season or two. IOW, this is probably worth it unless his play falls off a cliff again.
It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't in this case. The UFA market for D men this offseason is pretty bad. Provorov is the only other player close to Chychrun and he's not as offensively talented, a year older and at least with Chychrun you know what you have and the situation works.

It's a big contract and he's probably not really 'worth' that much but if you lose him your team is much worse and if you can afford the cap hit you might as well roll with it.

I think the Caps did what made the most sense in keeping him and it is likely good for Chychrun as well since he seems to fit in well. This does feel like a high Dougie potential deal where they get several years where he misses some time and possibly not even just on the back end of the contract. He's stayed on the ice more the last couple seasons but I don't know that I trust him to do it going forward very much.

On TSN just now, a group discussion about "Which team or player has done the most to silence the haters?" Sam Cosentino picks Carolina: "still a 100-point team, and I like their first round matchup against the Devils."

The host responds "Ok, but is it really hate? When you think of Carolina, isn't it really...Meh?"

Everybody laughs.

Canadians talk A LOT for a country that collectively hasn't accomplished as much as the Canes since the move from Hartford
