Speaking of "dragged" I can't believe there isn't a main board thread about how the Canes are dragging their dicks across the Metro despite having lost so many key pieces in the off season.

I wouldn't exactly say going 2-1 against playoff Metro opponents is worth bragging about. Unless you want to brag about beating Philly and Pittsburgh, and if that's the case, there's a lot of teams that can brag like that.

Well it's early to brag sure, however we have not lost to a Metro playoff team as if yet and of the 5 losses 2 of them had extenuating circumstances.

Well, I don't think anybody would have picked our team to be #1 in the Metro come Thanksgiving. I sure as hell didn't.

The Quarter Mark report - full of factoids
Necas and Blake receive some shoutouts.

QuarterMark_20242025_EDGE_Media-22020149.png

Trends Show Overtime Games Ending Before Shootout: 77.8% of games past regulation have been decided in 3-on-3 overtime, the highest rate ever at this stage of a season (ahead of 71.9% in 2022-23) and +11% relative to the highest end-of-season rate in history (69.9% in 2023-24). There have only been 14 shootouts in 2024-25, the fewest through 314 games since the tiebreaker was introduced in 2005-06 (next closest: 18 in 2022-23).

Did it jump out at anyone else that 34yo Steven Stamkos is listed as having the top max skating speed in the league to this point?

The Carolina Hurricanes are a perfectly built team this year.

I simply do not see any weaknesses in the Hurricanes roster this season, they are solid in every department. In my mind they are the best team in the East and only the Jets match them.

Vezina eligible goalie in Kochetkov

Norris eligible defender in Gostisbehere

Elite 1C in Aho

Great 1W in Svechnikov

Currently Adequate 2C in Kotkaniemi

50 goal pacing scorer in Roslovic

Big physical presence in Carrier, Martinook, Staal

Elite young players in Jarvis, Necas, Blake

Deadly power play and solid penalty kill

Great coaching by Brind'Amour
Yeah agree with all other than Svech being "great"

But my point is, hardly anyone thought all that was going to be the case during the offseason debacle. So, in other words, thread-worthy. Especially since anytime anything remotely surprising happens with any rando team people gush about it.

I would probably tone down the word "elite" for a few players, i.e. Aho and Blake.

I'd also would suggest that PP is very good but not deadly (ie Bolts & Oilers from previous years) and the PK is damn good when not taking dumb penalties to creat a fail in a 5 on 3 situation.

Really reads like they only really fired Bannister because a better option became available. Don't remember anyone doing that before.

Can't get much clearer than that. Which, you know, fair enough. When one of the better coaches in the game becomes available and your guy is an interim head coach anyway, you make that switch unless the team is doing especially well.

He wasn't an interim anymore, they signed him to be the permanent coach after his successful interim stint. If you do that with an interim, that's what they're for, but he was hired on a 2 year deal to be the guy.

And I can understand it, but, uh, wow. Like I said, never seen that before.

Eh, it’s 22 games into that 2-year-deal, so not a big change for the team/players. And a 9-12-1 record definitely isn’t good enough to keep him around. At least he lasted longer than Barry Melrose did in Tampa Bay.
