Yeah the Rangers are legit and only going to get better. Kakko & Lafreniere are recent former 2nd and 1st overall picks being used as complimentary pieces currently for a team that’s in the ECF. I’d expect at least one of those guys to break out here shortly, making the Rags even stronger. They’re gonna be the team to beat in the Metro the next 3-4 seasons in my opinion.

Buffalo just announced Ryan Miller is getting his number retired. Would be nice to see the announcement that Wardo gets his number retired too this coming season.
It's probably going to be a dogfight for 1 and 2 the next half decade between us and them, with possibly New Jersey factoring in there eventually as well. One of the biggest reasons I'd like to see us add a bit more physical punch to our lineup, because Trouba and Goodrow aren't going anywhere any time soon.

Yeah agreed. I hate to say it. But I like trajectory the Rangers are headed right now over our Canes. We’re close tho. I definitely could see us flip flopping for 1 & 2 in the metro like you said.

Given their high draft picks and Dougie, I’d think Jersey will elevate as well.

An abysmal franchise retiring the jersey of a good goalie who played half his career with your team. That is funny. They really don’t have anything to celebrate

We're looking at it from the perspective that we just lost to them on this as well. I seriously think with a healthy Andersen in net we take Boston in 5 and then would have won the last series in 6.

Their top end is better but they also quite literally all had career seasons this year. Our depth is better but also had some major disappointment showings this year on guys that should have taken the next step (Nachos, Lorentz, Bear).

It's going to come down to if one of our guys, probably Svech, takes that next step to being a superstar or if we can acquire a high end scorer of our own, or how well they can keep filling their depth holes and out-producing expectations on which one tops which year

Yeah I won't hate on the Rags they are a good team and will be in the picture for awhile, but as said they had a few guys with career years (Krider comes to mind) while most of our core were right at their norm or a little higher. Can Krider keep it up? Who knows but its almost assured TT, Aho, and Svech do or continue to progress.
Again we went to game 7 with our back up goalie and a whole lot of pipe rings. A few millimeters the right way and we will that series in 6.

God I hate the NHL sometimes. The fact that Trouba almost got his 3rd victim in 3 rounds of hockey with his "clean hitting". How the heck has the NHL never even given this guy a discipline hearing is beyond me.
Jarvis should have been aware of his surroundings.

You can bitch about ESPN or whatever here.

ESPN is by and large pretty good … compared to Sportsnet, it’s the best thing in hockey history. Had to endure whoever the commentator is in Canada for games 4 and 5 … yikes. He’s not good.

Doesn't change the fact that Trouba leads with his elbow. He is trying to injure people. Just look as his missed hit the other night he wasn't trying to "separate player from puck" he was trying to injure. At some point in time that has to be policed.
I don’t think he “led with his elbow” with Jarvis. It was a textbook hit.

Didn’t Jarvis himself say it was a clean hit and that after watching it, Jarvis said he kind of turned into it? Or am I misremembering?

How many hockey players say that after nasty hits?

Some, but not all. More recently players and coaches aren’t just saying clichés but are speaking their minds. Brind’amour is known for speaking his mind. Rangers put out a full blown press release on Tom Wilson. There are many more recent examples of players calling hits dirty when they think they are.

Fans of teams that have a player hit regularly think it’s dirty and fans of the player who made the hit regularly defend the hit. Always been that way.

Sorry, but what on earth were you watching? He led with his elbow and primarily targeted the head, and took just enough of the body to get away with it.
I don’t see that. Still pictures can be misleading, but I watched in slow mo multiple times. Here’s the point of contact. Elbow tucked, feet on the ice, hitting the shoulder and head simultaneously. A legal hit By today’s NHL rules.

I wonder if MTL and CAR going there have made giving offer sheets more generally a possibility for this off-season.

Feels to me like the once-working threatening with retaliation isn't perceived as such a power move anymore that a GM should be particularly afraid of it. And now there's also the fresh examples from where the GMs around the league can get their dos and don'ts of offersheeting business so there's more tested knowledge how that tool can be used ~effectively.

Obviously for that to happen you need that there are lucrative RFAs around July 13. Maybe teams are a tad bit more conscious that theirs isn't.

Maybe. But consider: Bergevin's failed offer sheet was part of the sequence of events that eventually got him fired, and so far KK hasn't shown himself to be worth the counter-offer. I agree that GMs might be a little more conscious of their potential targets, and I also think that agents might be more willing to use the threat of an offer sheet as a negotiating tool -- but this round of dueling offres hostiles did nothing to change the perception that offer sheets are big risks that can cost you your career if they don't pan out.

If KK turns out to be a steal in a year or two, maybe GMs will perceive the potential reward as being worth the risk. Until then, I don't think so.

Well that doesn't jive with the fact he didn't remember anything for a dew days so.. I assume it's just hockey talk.. not to be confused with locker room talk
