Who would have EVER guessed that cross-ice passes are going to beat the goalie way more often than muffin shots in close or long, forced point shots? I mean, everyone...except the Canes of course...

Well they had plenty of cross ices passes that either got intercepted, or weren't met with a one timer on the other end. A cross ice pass only works if you get the shot off before the goalie is setup, and most of the time they were fumbling with it and then it's too late. Or they caught the pass, and then tried a wrister which defeats the purpose.

At one point Necas seemed like had a decent one timer, but obviously that melted away with the rest of his offense this season.

Sure, everyone knows that is what works....until the "extra" pass is made that gets broken up, then everybody wanted a shot instead. They are damned if the take the shot into the chest and damned if they attempt the pass across the ice that is broken up.

Tampa trying to goon it up but the Rangers respond. Must be nice to have a team that isn't a complete pushover.

Some folks on here would tell you toughness doesn’t matter.

Nope, it sure does in playoff hockey. If roles were reversed and we had maroon going after us, which of our Canes would stop him or the other ruffians on the ice?

Rags had reeves.

TDA or Domi would probably respond by taking a stupid cross checking or slashing penalty, and that'd be about our most "physical" response.

Maybe you guys saw something I missed? I saw a bunch of guys wrestling and a couple gloved jabs, not too dissimilar from scrums the Canes have been involved in. Lorentz' response after the Trouba hit was way more aggressive and physical than anything I saw this game, but I guess that doesn't count because . . . ?

And when there is a scrum, it seems like the whole team does get involved these days, which wasn't always the case in the past. Besides TDA and Domi, when a scrum develops it seems like Nino, Tro, KK, Cole, Smith, Svech, and even Aho are fairly active participants (at least along the lines of what we saw last night).

I'll leave the argument as to the impact of "Canes toughness" on results for another time and place, but it sure seems to me like you're stretching the scrum last night to fit a preconception you have. Again, unless I missed how that somehow affected the game, in which case I'm certainly open to being filled in.

Nurse is atrocious. $9.25M well spent.
Everyone knew but Edmonton apparently

edit: honestly though. I dont see how in the world any GM thought giving Nurse, Hamilton, and Jones 9 million + was a good idea.

Nurse looked a lot better offensively that he should because he took a million shots a season. His volume was ridiculous. He isnt very good defensively
Jones can log some minutes and play pretty good defense in clog the middle type team. He isnt much else
Hamilton. cannon of a shot and not much else.

Cap killers. Although for NJ it doesnt matter because they have so much of it.

Edmonton is going to have 2 of the top 5 players in the game and not win diddly squat because their GM is atrocious.

Are the Oilers going to win a game? They arent a very good hockey team. 2 great players but very little else around them.

Lehkonen was marketed (at least in the Finnish circles) as the catch before the trade deadline. You know, as the sort of gritty depth guy that a Cup team needs.

And COL goes and puts him in top 6 next to Kadri and Rantanen, the latter of which used to play in the same team with Lehkonen in juniors and they also train together during the summers.

This Rangers team very well could goalie and power play their way to a cup. Especially if they get a little bit of that beneficial officiating magic. 33% power play is going to be hard for even TB to overcome if they find themselves parading to the box.

If Rags win the Stanley... Well, I hate them but I will feel better knowing we lost from the champion
