Around the League 24 25

The team in the West that scares me the most is still Vegas.

If Hellebuyck shows up in R1, then it becomes the Jets.

My hope is that the Blues pass the Wild for 7th and at least present something of a challenge for Vegas.

I'm calling it now. This is the year the Kings beat the Oilers
I want to vomit thinking about that matchup again and I have watched all of like one complete games’ worth of play over the last three years. I feel for their fans. It’s even funnier that it’s gotten less competitive every year going 7, 6, and then 5 games. I’ll take Edmonton in 4.

Why the NHL thought they were the smartest person in the room and wanted to fix something that wasn’t broken is beyond me. Telling that the NBA hasn’t transitioned to this format on any level 10 years later. I wonder if the NHL is genuinely dumb enough to think that both the contrived product and eroding of goodwill with your fans is worth the trivial increase in profit this system has provided over the old over the last 10 years, or are too stubborn to revert back.

Hottake: most NHL regular season games are borderline exbihition games which makes it a boring slog. The NHL should get rid of both conferences and divisions and just do 2x games against every team. It's not only the fairest system but it might also give the regular season a little bit of prestige.

I'm aware it's not going to happen anytime soon since the owners will never accept less home games, but a man can dream.

I think quite simply the NHL wants as many Game 7s as possible. They want longer series and it's a nice bonus that Game 7s are some of the absolute best hockey you can get. It just makes sense economically for the league.

At the end of the day, most owners aren't gonna give a shit about the playoff format's effect on their team's championship chances. They are gonna care about the bottom line.

Nashville giving up 8 to the Blue Jackets is possibly a new low.

Going all-in on Saros at the exclusion of Askarov is the type of decision that stings for a generation.
It's not like Askarov would fair better with that trash team in front of him though

Have you seen our defense. Josi, Wilsby and Lauzon are out for the season already.
I have seen them, yes.

Well, he's fairing massively better behind the vaunted Sharks defense.
2.99 with a .895 (saros)
vs
3.10 with a .896

That's not massively better and it's in only 13 games for Askarov too, and ironically he got lit up by of all teams Nashville in 1 of his starts.

Askarov is in the AHL goalie on SJ behind Georgiev of all goalies

Blues 11 straight for the 7th seed. Would love to see them knock out the Knights.

We NEED #1 seed. A beat up and broken Minny would be such a better matchup than any of the other 7 teams in the West.

Ovechkin tied Gretzky's goal record tonight, so he has a chance to break it on Sunday. I feel like if he does, it's gonna push back puck drop for the Stars game even further than it already would be.

At a minimum they push it back 20 minutes after the posted start time anyway. If anything, they'll just start broadcasting our game halfway through the 1st period to cover Ovie and to hell with everyone else. Scheduling back-to-back 2:00PM puck drops is some bullshit though

Yeah, but I'd rather that than us be the 3rd game of the triple header and pushed back even further because the 2nd game gets pushed back if Ovi scores.

Or even worse, they planned a half hour event around him breaking it, he doesn't score, then the douchebags on TNT fill the air with their ignorant, cliche opinions and lame ass slapstick comedy routines
