The two conferences have flipped this year. Last year the EC pretty much had the 8 teams decided by Christmas. This year there’s 7 teams within 4 points of each other for the final spot.

In the West there’s really only about 4 teams fighting for the last WC spot.

Rantanen as mentioned now has 8 ENG this season. Kind of a disgusting statline that makes his 29G this season extremely distorted figure. He has something like 30% of his goal total being ENG. Not something I'd be proud about. Thing is Dallas payng 12M longterm for this and so many of his goals just ENG.

ENG should be delineated in a heading under main stats. Not convinced they should even count as regular goal totals. They should be an asterisk subcategory. Not just saying this because I'm an Oilers fan. Goals in context could be said to involve beating a goalie. ENG are not that. EVA also quite a distortion.

Of course the player agents of players like these probably love this. Its a way to dupe the fans too to think you're getting some value on contractual dollar.

A full 14 of Rants pts are ENP lmfao.

Not by surprise Rants leads the league in ENP at 14 followed by Mackinnon at 13 and Hagel at 12. Nobody else in league even at double figures. For Rantanen and Hagel particularly this comprises a significant part of their total pts. But GM's will line up to pay for that...

These are basically mirage goals and pts. This is the difference between rants either having 59 or 73pts. Huge. the guys dinner bell goes off and he salivates with an empty net. Drooling at how many bucks thats gonna get him.

They should have a sarcastic Empty net champ trophy. Rantanen wins, beating even Ovechkin. Reward is getting paid way more than you're worth.

Lets contrast. Drai has 91pts that are with a goalie in net. Rants has only 59. Yet Rants has 10more ENP than Drai.

But they get paid similar money and somehow Rants is considered a topten producer even though he's far off that without the bubble gum pts.

This is an old article that considers whether ENG or ENP should be counted in scoring totals. In short we don't count shootout goals as goals. The team that wins just gets credited with an extra goal. ENG and ENA are clearly different than scoring plays involving a goalie. They should not be tallied one and the same. Just because this has been the way doesn't mean it makes any sense.

I'm not so sure. Watched them play a few games over the last few weeks and they didn't seem all that impressive. Calgary of all teams made them look very pedestrian.

Every team has some bad games where theres no effort. On the whole the Caps are pretty solid, and pretty deep at every position and with damn good coaching. When that team is on they physically run opponents out of the rink and skate them into submission. Big fast and skilled is a helluva combo. In the smaller team East I see them as a playoff roster.

I think they win the division but get eliminated by Florida. Florida with the three-peat to the Final. I’m leaning towards Colorado from the west right now. Not sure the Oilers can take them out if it’s a Colorado Edmonton West Conference final.

Florida vs Washinton imo is where it lands in the East. Will be a series worth watching if it occurs. Florida of course having the advantage of all that playoff experience and Caps, most of the club not really having that recently.

Both Florida and Washington are built for playoffs. Big and talented. A lot of East teams still haven't figured out you need size and strong EV players in playoffs.

Even in 4nations not sure how much people noticed but smaller players were being ineffective on every squad. Bigger players were owning. Even on Team Canada it was the big boys getting it done. For the US as well of course. It was funny though to see Arvid flying around and falling down NOT as an Oiler.
