GDT: Around The League 24/25. Parity, blessed parity.

Or maybe, just maybe, fans are losing interest year by year due to the corrupt league, its lack of promotion of its stars, and its goal of dragging the stars down to the level of the average plug.
Or the endless offside review or goalie interference challenges where the guys skate is a mm over the blue line or the end of his stick grazes the goalies blocker and causes goals to be disallowed.

It'll be like 06 Turin Hockey Canada lol Legacy picks over younger talent

It seems like every 15-20 years Hockey Canada needs to galaxy brain themselves into making idiotic decisions that end up embarrassing the team in whatever tournament they're in. 1998 Olympics, 2006 Olympics, this tournament.

Usually at most you might say "I'd rather have player B than player A that got named," but usually just for one or two guys. This team has about a half dozen. Shades of Rob Zamaneur in 1998, Shane Doan and Ryan Smyth over Crosby and Staal in 2006 (experience!), this year there are blatantly bad decisions in net, on the blue line, and up front.

Kris Draper over Sidney Crosby in 2006 was definitely ... a choice. Pretty sure Ken Holland had a lot of say on that genius move. Smyth and Doan were at least still high end players in their prime.

Yes - forgot about Draper too.

Doan was pretty blatantly a "he plays on my team and I like him so he's on the team" pick by Gretzky IMO. He was a good player for sure, but not a fit for international ice and not better than several names left off.

By 2026 guys like Celebrini, Fantilli and Bedard should definitely be in the picture. With defensemen like Power hopefully take a step up. But it is always unclear if these guys get picked over grey beards. The real question would still be who stops the puck?

One would think but given how Hockey Canada operates, I have my doubts.
Like K1984 said, coaches and management tend to plug their own guys first regardless of merit

Oh yah, I agree. An with the NHL having been out of the Olympics for years there will be a lot of pressure to give some of the old guys a chance.

These are the same guys who would've been products of Hockey Canada.

The politics, popularity contests and brown nosing from the bottom up has always been intensely gross

This will help Gary and his US market with the storyline that Connor isn't good enough to win anything.
