Miller is the only player with any heart on that team. I respect his hustle. With him gone, soft swede and little boy Hughes will be their leaders (yikes), and Hughes is going to NJ to be with his bros as soon as he can. They'll be back to rebuild mode soon enough.

Out of all that happened on the weekend, seeing Wes MacAuley repeated cited as "the best in the league" is completely f***ing baffling to me. He's a dog shit referee and was long before he single handedly imploded the game last weekend.

Like most referees in the league north of 45, he's a pure game manager, has a massive ego, loves hearing himself, and goes totally sideways if ever questioned or challenged. Beyond the Garland bullshit, the one that sums him up was the slash call on Bouchard. Miller cross checks him, then Bouch slashes him, and Wes saw both. There is no reason whatsoever to only take one 2 mins into a game where nothing happened. Non-stupid referees take both and then tell them they're only taking one next time. Over. Not him, for whatever reason he decided that the Oilers were the target that night, they score, game changes. All because he decided to drive an agenda from puck drop.

Whenever I hear he's the best I just ask "why do you think that?" Seems he's considered "the best" for no reason other than some folks are smitten by his cute theatrics. He's a joke.

Hughes, Miller, Boesser and Joshua are the only players I fear on that team and 2 of them will be gone by the end of this season.

Agreed. I hated the slobbering over him for years because he makes exaggerated calls that make it all about him. Pure ego move.

These refs are all the nerds that weren't good enough to make the show and now they have power over the cool kids that gave them wedgies and stuffed them in gym lockers. Wes is a f***ing nerd.

It’s possible every Canadian team makes the playoffs. However much I dislike some of ‘em I dislike Bettman more so it would be funny to watch his explode if it were to happen.

Genuine question (I’m unsure of where to put this but around the league seems most relevant since we’re addressing other team/fans):

Does my response to the above qualify as flaming in any capacity? I’ve lost my “like” ability because of that response?

Numerous posts across Oilers threads are more inflammatory than mine and remain up.

I'm guessing its a "don't feed the troll" type warning. Sucks man. It's a dangerous game to post on the main boards. I did my best to not get upset with 3on0 and he got told to shutup haha. That Sol guy is unhinged. Watching LA lose 3 years in a row to the same team must have scrambled his brains.

Unbelievable inconsistency. He starts by trolling - I give him a pretty tame response and get ****ed.

Fla vs Tb
Was vs Ott
Car vs Nj
Wpg vs Cgy
Dal vs col
Edm vs Min
Vgk vs La

Obviously that’s a nightmare first round matchup for the Oilers (win their division for the first time since 1987 and get the Wild as “reward”) - but I can’t see Min leapfrogging Dal or Col as the end of regular season draws near.

This is a great year to finish first in the West - the top 7 teams are all scary to some degree but getting Calgary or Vancouver as a first round punching bag would be ideal.

I've yet to hear a single soul explain what makes him the best referee in the NHL that doesn't involve "hIS cALls aRE CoOL."

I probably watch 3-5 games a week that aren't Oilers and I have a pretty good feel for most of the referees in the league in a way that isn't coloured by my fandom of the team involved. Anyone that claims Wes Macauley is the best in the league is simply wrong. Clown car gong shows like last Saturday happen frequently on his watch.

When he makes a dumb call (often), you see players go up to him to discuss and he usually just shrugs them off before he gets himself excited over the announcement. I truly think he's thinking about how he's going to announce the penalty in these instances and needs to brush the player off as to not be distracted.

I never seem to remember the refs in well-officiated games, although I suppose that shouldn't surprise me - it means they didn't have their fingerprints all over the game and didn't influence the outcome.

I do, however, remember shit refs. Looking at you Kozari, Lee, etc etc
