it's been a strange season in Vancouver...something is "off" about that team
from Pettersson slow start to the Miller leave of absence, to the constant Demko injuries to Tochett crying to the media about "Petey"

now Friedman is spit balling Skinny Pete to Buffalo rumours

I see a major shakeup coming
where did he say that? I always love some Vancouver drama lol

Skinny Pete would "thrive" somewhere where he can fly under the radar I think.

They're in a funny spot because reality is kind of half slapping them in the face.

They aren't on the run of everything turning up roses like it did last year, but some things are still turning up roses. They're getting good results and production from depth players, Debrusk has come in and performed, and they avoided catastrophe in net with Lainkinen playing very well. On the other hand "Petey" is still a mopey little bitch, they physically can't win at home, and Miller is so odious they told him to just go away.

They're in an amazing spot from the perspective of someone that hates them because they're ripe to do something stupid in an attempt to regain last year's glory. On 32 Thoughts Friedman said something to the effect of "Rutherford is probably looking at teams like the Oilers, Knights, Wild, and Jets and saying, I think we're going to need to make some changes to compete with these teams in the playoffs." They still see themselves as contenders (they aren't), so they're going to make moves to try and get there. They'll just end up shooting themselves in the foot.
Rutherford is honest with himself. He said they need a few more guys to be contenders on after hours.

Miller was confirmed to have asked for the leave of absence. Miller comes back, Skinny Pete stops producing..

I think he needs to be somewhere where he is riding shotgun to a true alpha. Problem is he probably now makes too much money to be able to ride shotgun anywhere. Say he got dealt to the Wild where Kaprizov is the clear #1 - I think he would light it up there. It won't work if he's expected to drive the bus.

He does not have the personality to be the #1.

I can't hold it against a player for saying it, but I hated when he said an Olympic Gold is more goal worthy than a Stanley Cup. I could not have a top guy on my team who thought this way. I know the Olympics are prestigious, but still.

You get the feel with him that if the SHL paid NHL money that he'd be perfectly content with a 20 year casual career playing for Timra. You get the sense he just doesn't really want to be here.

Didn’t know he said that

It actually explains A LOT, and Canucks fans should be worried about what he said and the seemingly mopey attitude to go with it

Friedman's 32 Thought's podcast

I think Skinny Pete is the player Tochett is referring to when he says "some players aren't emotionally engaged in games"

In your closet
Vancouver isn't that good. WC2 at best and their team/fans coming to terms with that over the next few months is going to be glorious.

Utah has low key been kinda decent 5 on 5. Wouldn't be shocked if they sneak into the last playoff spot.

Can't get behind that. Sounds like a loser sentiment. "Hey my present is better than yours" says the 5yr old. I haven't seen the original comment, would like to see it, but to play in the NHL and to say that is silly. I realize some Euros would have the sentiment but to voice that is buzzkill to players here that would strive to SC.

It makes me grateful that Connor and Leon are the leaders that they are and put up and show up when it really matters. Hell, I’d even call Nurse a better leader than anything they have over in Vancouver, the boys love him in the room. And that’s without even mentioning guys like Ekholm and Hyms. We’re pretty fortunate that our best players understand the responsibilities that come with being the top dogs in a market like this.

Where others would shrink, that stuff fuels guys like Leo and Connor. Just wired differently.

Ah yes, what definitely happened.

Funny how after all the failed and successful rebuilds in the NHL it's always and only been the Oilers that everyone froths at the mouth at the possibility of the rebuild failing.

Think you would ever, in a million years see the same thing written with the Senators and Red Wings in place of Oilers and Sabres?

The resentment around the league for the Oilers goes back to the 80's because of Greztky. It really started with the press in Toronto and New York. It kind of went dormant in the 90's and early 2000's because the team was consistently mediocre to the core. It was fully resurrected when the Oilers got the 4 1st overall picks, especially the McDavid pick. Honestly, I think it will continue until years after McDavid retires.

Tocchet speech helped

Van stars don't do anything. Others step up. Keifer Sutherland with a Hattie hahahahaha

Demko gets the shutout.

First time I saw Keifer play I wanted him. Was trying to scout Carrier at the time. He’s so obviously a good player that was just waiting to break out. And Trotz the clown walked away cause he didn’t want to go from $1M per to $1.5M per for him.

Tochett, for all his faults..is a good coach
It’s a lot of Sutter level parlour tricks. It works, until it doesn’t.
