Toronto Maple Leafs, live by the sword, die by the sword.

Sword being “hits to the head”.
But as usual Vegas come out smelling like a rose. Whitecloud left his feet and delivered a pretty vicious head-shot and the Leafs end up on the pk. Had it been a Golden Knight who threw the Reaves hit on Nurse, Nurse probably would have ended up with the only penalty for delay of game while he was unconscious and bleeding all over the ice. And I say this as someone who is far from a fan of the Buds.

Yeah that was some bs Vegas reffing.

The NHL wonders why ratings are down? It’s because of garbage like that.

The incompetent reffing has made it hard to watch the games and have any emotional investment in them.

That wasn’t a headshot.

Knies should stop skating around with his head down
Karma for the idiot Leafs fans who were talking about Nurse.

Not that I wanted Knies to get hurt but they really need to not be idiots when their players do things that are obviously dirty.

Remember them booing the call as Nurse was bleeding out of his head? Then defending the “clean hit” on twitter. Now they are all up in arms. Dumbest fans in sports.

Karma is glorious.

Whether it was a match penalty is, I guess, debatable...but the fact that Vegas ended up with a power play at the end of it all was a ridiculous outcome imo. I'm not a conspiracy theorist by any means, but Vegas does seem to get the good of the stick more often than not.

Did Gretz send Tonya Harding after Ovi? I don't know if he breaks the record this year now - seems unlikely.

Funny thing is in life I am about as far away from a conspiracy theorist as can be. The one exception to that rule is the NHL. While I won't go as far as some it seems to me that the NHL has and always has had favorite franchises. Right now Vegas is probably at the top of that list.

In contrast, I think that ever since the amalgamation and the Gretzky issue the Oilers have tended to get the short end of the stick as far as breaks from the League. All of the 1st overall picks and certainly getting McDavid did not help. (Yah I know this seems self-contradictory that they got all these picks but I have never thought the draft was rigged, outside possibly the Crosby draft).

Why should whitecloud get a penalty for getting jumped for a clean hit?

We will have to agree to disagree on it being a clean hit. I think he left his feet, and that the primary point of contact was his head, witch makes it an illegal hit imo. I will admit it's not as clear cut as Nurse's hit was though, and not done with malicious intent like the Reaves hit.

He doesn’t leave his feet until after contact.

Elbow tucked, hits through the chest.

Idk where to bitch about this, but man Rogers Place's bathroom and bar arrangement really sucks ass.

During intermissions when I use the facilities and get a beverage it takes me the entire intermission and about 2-5 minutes into the next period due to lines and such.

I went and watched the Leafs and Golden Knights tonight at Scotiabank Arena and I was easily able to get all of that done with time to spare in the intermission. Barely waited in line at all.

Kinda confounded me because the watching experience otherwise at SBA was much worse.
That’s one of the main reasons o stopped going to ganea. I end up missing a third of the game waiting in lines.

So crazy how goalies can turn from great to bad so quickly... Matt Murray, then Binnington, then Jarry, and now Skinner (also Raycroft if you back far enough in the day).

Hopefully he corrects his trajectory soon.

Add Ullmark and Swayman to that list more recently.

The handling of the extensions for both these players was terrible by both teams respectively. The Bruins for not signing Swayman before they dealt Ullmark, and the Senators for eagerly extending Ullmark to a crippling deal prior to him playing a minute for them.

Knowing that signing a goalie to a gigantic deal prior to playing for your team is a bad idea should be a prerequisite for any GM, and a thing that all of them should know not to do. Knew the Ullmark one would be an issue the second it was signed. You don't just go from Boston to Ottawa and play the same in net.

As an aside - I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry when we played the Senators and Jack goes "the fans here are not happy at all and are livid with how Ullmark has played, but you look at his numbers and they're quite a bit better than Stuart Skinners." As if Skinner was legit, and their concerns about Ullmark absurd because he was playing ahead of such a star in the other net. Again, I don't know what it is about Stuart Skinner that has all these morons fooled, but it's a thing.

If you’re going to gamble in a goalie before he plays a game for your team then Ullmark is worth it. He was good behind Buffalos tire fire defence and great behind Bostons stingy defence. He’ll put up good numbers in Ottawa but the team just isn’t good yet.

It can take a bit a goalie to get used to a whole new situation. I think honestly Ullmark and Swayman are missing the duo of them. I know it’s really close and stuff like that messes with goalies more than most.
