What the f***? I’m a 100% born and bred Mennonite. There are literally no Mennonite insults. To be called a Mennonite is a badge of honor.

The skin is awfully thin with the ultra-woke ruling claSS.
This seems to be a league thing because nobody else seems to think this is reasonable.

Sim apparently said something last season that got him in trouble and it looks like they league decided to go draconian.

That’s an odd one

It only seems odd because we aren't used to seeing the word mennonite used in a derogatory manner. The statement from the league says that all religious insults are treated equally and are off-limits.

Replace "mennonite" with "muslim" or "jew" and you can see where the problem is. People call themselves muslims and jews all the time but saying "shut up, Muslim" or "sit down, Jew" to Kadri or Hyman would clearly be off limits.

Do you know what he said or are you assuming he said something derogatory?

Sure sounds like he did.

"The 20-year-old was ejected and assessed a game misconduct at the end of the first period of London’s 5-1 London win at Sault Ste. Marie on Nov. 6. The OHL found Sim contravened the league’s code of conduct “intended to provoke an opposing player that was marginalizing on both religious and cultural grounds.”

"The league reinforced, in an emailed statement to The Free Press, that a player may not target another member of the OHL community in an attempt to provoke them on the basis of their religious or cultural background."

“All forms of harassment and abuse including, but not limited to, taunts and slurs and comments based on race, age, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, creed, gender, sexual orientation, marital status or disability will not be tolerated and are completely unacceptable under any circumstances,” the statement said.

I don’t disagree agree at all. I went to school with a gentleman that was Jewish and he would introduce himself to people as “Jew” because he liked the nickname but I wouldn’t dare say it around his parents out of fear of disrespecting them. I’m sure some heads turned when people would call out his nickname in public though.

That’s just another justification word salad by the ruling claSS. Blah blah blah.

So what exactly did he say? And who’s the arbiter?
