Relax, those are some serious mental gymnastics. Oilers have a rich history and accomplish a lot but the reality is, who cares? I wasn't alive during those time and its so far in the past it isn't really relevant today.

The WHA made their draft age a year younger than the NHL to try to snipe talent in a desperate attempt to stay afloat. The NHL should have been in a position to dictate terms to the newly merged teams. Instead, they allowed teams to keep their best players, in some cases players no NHL team had ever had access to, and the Oilers were gifted a dynasty because of it.
