Don't really understand this. Seattle wasn't supposed to be a playoff team this season, and their young players seemed to take a step forward—puzzling stuff.
Depends on end of year interviews. If the prevailing opinion in the room was that the coach had lost them then it doesn’t matter what expectations were.

Kuzmenko looks so good, must be nice having a coach that caters to the player's skillset, instead of turning everyone into a defensive minded 45 point forward. Can't wait for Tocchet to f*** off

LA played into the Oilers pressure PK on high possessions and got rejected at the beginning, but they kept the puck below the hashes and the Oilers looked helpless.

Going to be harder for the Oilers this playoffs, I think teams last year were surprised they could actually play defence, but I think they were also very much one trick ponies on that front.

It's not a coincidence that Clayton Keller has his 3 best offensive seasons since Tocc left.
It’s also no coincidence this is Kuzmenko’s 4th team. Not saying his handling was perfect but he takes a good chunk of blame as well.

McDavid trying to play walk through everyone beer league hockey.

He's produced offensively despite that. And that's with Tocc and Torts doing their best to re-program him. Nearly a PPG with LA/Philly and scored 14 in 29 for the Flames.

This Kuzmenko looks a bit different than what we had here, he's a little more engaged. I wonder if that off-season in Bali tanked his conditioning like Petey's ("supposedly") - we saw a good off-season by Brock ended up with his career season in 23-24.

(Could also just be a coaching mismatch, obviously)

Maybe he isnt constantly being benched and told to playing defense only hockey?
