Around the League 2024-25 season

Hutson and Suzuki are absolute magic for the Habs, what a f***ing come back that was. Hutson is having one of the best rookie seasons for a D man since Lidstrom I believe. Absolutely nutty considering how young he is. He should almost be in the running for Norris at this point as well...

What great company to be around, all but Suter are in the Hall of Fame, and Suter wasn't exactly a slouch either.
I remember how Bob would always mention how Phil Housley jumped from South St. Paul HS to the NHL at 18.

I was pretty bullish on this guy in college, but he has exceeded anything I could have imagined.

Montreal is going to be a very interesting team to watch, especially if Demidov is as advertised next season. They seem to have most of the high-end skill pieces in place, it'll be interesting to see if they can find their Mitchell and Williams type guys in the next couple of years.

I don’t really disagree because they seem to have some of the most important pieces but right now MTL reminds me more of teams like the old coyotes who would turn it on as soon as the pressure/expectations were off

It’s pretty easy to look good in the East right now when there might be 2-3 playoff teams with fewer than 90 points for the first time in like decades

Im excited to see Demidov and I love watching Quinn Hughes I mean Hutson but I’m reserving judgment on if they’re just spoilers/second-half heroes or if they’re actually elevating

I'm starting to worry that my investment in tickets to the Caps final 4 games of the season may be for naught. The lowly Hawks, at home on Friday, getting a hat-trick to break the record would be the most Ovi thing ever. It went pretty quick from looking like it would be next season, to now looking like it'll be well before this season ends.

It still feels surreal that the record is about to fall, knowing where the game was in the late 90's and into the 2000's, the 2004 Rocket Richard was a three way tie with 41 goals. I really never thought it would be sniffed, much less broken.

The game is in a great spot, Sid and Ovy helped usher in a great era of hockey, much like Magic and Bird saved the NBA from the dumpster in the 80's.

They have the most difficult part of the rebuild down, finding offense is the hardest thing, people minimize offense or try and say intangible things are more important, but there is a reason why offensive players are drafted at the top of the draft and are paid the most money.

They did have some run-well too, they were able to trade a declining veteran for a prospect who ends up being their franchise two-way center, Suzuki is a legit star player, somehow he plays in Montreal and is underrated, Caufield falling to 15 was absolutely criminal and NHL GM's should be embarrassed by some of the players they took over him, and then they get Hutson two years later the same way. What is crazy is, they made a poor pick and passed on Michkov, imagine what they'd look like with him?

Obviously there is a lot more to do, they will need to sign some culture veterans, and trade the right young pieces for other veterans (DL did an excellent job with the Kings in trading POS, Johnson and Simmonds) but it's tough to imagine that team not being very good for the next 7-8 years.

It's pretty crazy when you think of that low scoring era but also missing full year due to lockout, covid hitting, etc

Ovy is just a machine and it's remarkable that he's been able to pull this together

Oilers win but at the cost of losing Crysaitl. We might have a chance if both he and McNugget are banged up in round 1. Bad news is that Pickard looks very locked in and good rn.

But hey, at least they are doing a rebuild the right way! Who cares if it’s a decade between playoff appearances, dynasty incoming!
And their young #1 center has been regressing ever since he made the cover of EA's game. The curse is real.

I also can't believe some Kings fans argued that they would trade places with the Ducks when I brought that question up months ago.

When it comes to this board, NOTHING shocks me anymore.

Ovi's got 2 so far. He's gonna break it tonight, you can feel it.

Caps up 4-3 , my guess it will be an EN goal/

We were talking about this earlier at my local watering hole, none of us thought they'd put him out in an EN situation to break the record.

We will see, I think it would be a pretty cheap way to break it.

It is amazing to witness. The season he has put up, at his age, despite major injury is nothing short of legendary. Ovi deserves the title as the greatest goal scorer in NHL history.
