I can believe it. Biz is well connected with the players and IIRC has called a few things before.

I need to listen to the podcast so I can hear the full context.

It just doesn't look right.

Heard his wife wanted a bigger city.. not sure why LA was off the list - maybe he factored in chances of winning another cup or the ridiculous tax rate.

seemed like both of those played a role--Dallas is closer to winning, with a good tax rate, WITH a chance for revenge on Colorado, with a bunch of his Finnish friends.

I'm 100% fine with it. Doesn't strike me at all as a guy who would have liked it here and though I don't think he'd mail it in he certainly wouldn't be worth his salary. And he has yet to prove he can be 'the guy' on his own, as well. I'll never really hate on a guy exercising his UFA rights to be where he wants to be, even if I don't really like the air around how it all went down. Colorado kind of turfing him in the middle of a playoff chase tells me a lot too.

its interesting.. he had an M-NTC on his current in-effect contract, apparently Carolina was on the list - so he didnt hate it that much. But I agree a pending FA who got moved at the deadline sure has a right to take advantage of his status. 100% fine with it too. Re landing with a bunch of Fins: I think Fins are really solid 2 way players as a rule - the Kings should think about starting a nest.

Lmao Carolina gave up a good young player in Necas as well. Ouch.
They got 2 1sts (albeit late ones) 2 3rds and Stankhoven.. for sure they got the "worst" player in all the back and forth, but Stankhoven may fit their style more in the end. And they can get another solid player if they want to move all those picks. A very weird situation to say the least that looks like the GM was not prepared there. In the end, I think it turned out OK for them.

Yea I think they did pretty good considering the circumstances. Also I recall reading Necas having one foot out the door there and Drury requesting a trade a couple years ago when they were slow boiling him. He was ready to play for a while but wasnt a full time NHLer until like last year.

Question is, would you trade Kempe for the package Necas got?

2x 1sts
2x 3rds
Stankoven

Because it's a somewhat similar situation for us. He's only signed one more year and will likely require a hug contract or we lose him in free agency.

Necas is only signed for one more year, then he's a UFA. And he reportedly wanted out of Carolina, so they were probably gonna lose him anyways.
They were rumored to be trying to flip one of the firsts for Boeser.

Boeser, Stankoven, a first and two thirds for Necas would have been a good haul.

I think it's worth considering.

Kempe is LA's most valuable trade chip, it should definitely be considered if a decent long term deal isn't in the cards.

Definitely not upset at all that Rantanen didn't want to come to LA. Didn't want to spend the assets, money, and impending black hole years of doom trying to compete while his deal expires. Would have been a waste as a rental as well.

Would love to get Dahlin, of course it would never happen, but I would definitely deal any player on the team to get him.

Sorta sad seeing Vilardi eclipse 60 points tonight with a powerplay goal and about to surpass the 30 goal mark soon this season too. All while marking $3.4 million.... Of course you throw in Faber looking great, and PLD going to get 60 points 20 goals as well and this team's management looks like a f***ing joke. Just enraging to think Blake is still allowed to sit in the front office at all.

I would, especially if I thought it was a good draft year.

I'm not usually big on revisionist draft picks, and I think a lot of us agree on that because everyone has 'misses' in that regard but I seem to remember it being nearly universal here that the Hughes pick was dumped on with--for me personally anyway--Hutson right there, as well as Tristan Luneau and Adam Sykora. And the Hughes pick in partiuclar being a smallish left handed center that was years off at best was a headscratcher.

I agree about the revisionist picks, I think it's fair to do it higher up in the draft (the Kings absolutely should have taken Caufield for example), but as you move down the draft it's kind of not fair, many teams passed on Hutson multiple times.

My issue isn't that the Kings didn't draft Lane Hutson, it's that if they did he wouldn't be the same player he has been for Montreal, in fact he probably has zero NHL games at this point, and we are all clamoring on this board for him to be called up. And here is a video of him making a key play leading to a goal against the team the Kings just can't seem to beat. You need players like that, making plays like that to beat Edmonton, we have seen the grinding out 2-1 and 3-2 wins doesn't work, but the Kings don't have the horses to exploit the Oilers weaknesses.

Certain people here who at the time were still actively defending Blake's development strategies would love to use the "He wouldn't be doing it in LA" line when talking about countless young players from Faber, to Stutzle to Caufield, to Zegras to Suzuki. They thought this was a defense of Blake, but in reality they were actually proving the point about just how clueless LA's development philosophy is.
