Around the League 2024-25 season

Garland came out of it OK because he turned his head a bit right before the incoming crosscheck to the face... otherwise I would expect he'd be missing his front row
 
On a more way off topic around the league...my wife and I went on a Northern Thailand tour, to temples and villages, other sites. And one stop was at this famous 'longneck' village, where they wear these rings from a young age and stretch out their neck...I asked one (that was talkative, so why not) if Darnell Nurse grew up here...and showed them a photo. They kind of laughed and said no. (I was not making fun, I had bought one of their crafts and donated to them) And I then showed them a photo of Barry Trotz and asked if he could benefit from coming to their village, and get a neck....this time, they were on to me, but not offended.
Many didn't buy their crafts and quilts, so I felt ok to ask. My wife and I bought a few things.

They start them young. My Thai wife's second language is English, of course, so I enjoy her English choice of words....she called the most famous one "she's the signature long neck'. The next hour or so, I called my wife short neck.

Kai loves Kings hockey and we watch NHL TV in Phuket. She wants to see the Kings, once she gets her visa. In the meantime, I’m spending 10 months here and come back to Cali and Colo 2 months to see fam and my 2 grown sons in Denver. We’ve gone to HK and Kuala Lumpur. Good times. Sux I can’t bring her to USA yet. Even on a tourist visa

I asked Kai who she thinks the Kings’ signature player is. Quick to answer “Kempe”
She’s very astute and perceptive and tells me when the Kings have ‘bad form’…and when they’re on their game and tells me we’re going to win today. Obviously, she knows the Kings PP sucks. Explaining a delayed penalty was arduous. “Why is the goalie leaving?”
She could tell Spence was Asian and has referred to him as “Japanese”, before she learned his name.

I don't want to encourage or celebrate deliberately injuring a player and destroying a career. Just like we wouldn't want any Kings player, past, present, or future, to get injured deliberately.

I don't know if your obtuseness on this critical point is accidental or deliberate.

I'm all for McDavid getting a smackdown too. I hope it makes him think three times and look over his shoulder three times. I can't speak for @Herby @The Butcher or any other "disgusting pacifists" though.

That's the thing. None of what you said matters. If a player like McDavid is actively going around hurting his peers with not a care in the world, the last thing he needs is compassion. I would be upset if it happened to a King that was taking players out but I'd understand it and wouldn't act as if it wasn't coming.

McDavid at this point deserves to get the same recklessness his way and if something happens to him, I wouldn't feel bad. If trying to be above it all isn't working then you have to stop the rats somehow. You can't pretend to be better than them and hope it goes away. Leave your compassion to players who are deserving of it. Not scumbags. People celebrated when Matt Cooke got knocked out by Kane. This is no different. Both trash.

I think i’ve said it before but on one hand good on McDavid for channeling superstars of eras past who stand up for themselves

But on the other being a rat and hitting guys from behind and with cross checks isn’t brave

He’s gonna get whatever’s coming to him and at this point he’s deserving of it. He’s hurt what, four Kings at this point?

I’m with Sol on this one. He’s gonna run around cross checking people in the head like a bitch, its time for him to get an elbow to the teeth, or send him to the Orr/Bure school of “what if, only if not for his knee.”

McDavid is quickly reaching Raffi Torres level of "if he dies, he dies" indifference from me.
I won't wish harm upon him, but if someone takes him out my response would be along the lines of "that's a shame" and I'd move on.

So... should Kevin Fiala have his career ruined, considering he injured Matt Roy and has had some discipline issues with his hits and physical play?

It's not about pretending to be better than anyone. I just think there needs to be a line when it comes to violent retribution, because ultimately it will affect things you care about negatively. To me, it's pragmatism.

You know I completely agree with you. If you can injure players and hurt their chances of winning with zero repercussions then why not?

Do people not realize that our fan favorite dustin brown was probably wished upon by the entire league to get injured and would celebrate everytime something would happen to him? How can we forget any of that? Do people forget that Dustin Brown won the Canucks series by absolutely killing a Sedin? Every player mentioned that it was the turning point.

Do people not realize how powerful intimidation is? Do people remember that Mikey Anderson had snarl in his game before McDavid ended him? And the Oilers fans all celebrated when he did? Mikey Anderson doesn't even throw big hits anymore since that hit.

Compassion gets you nothing if someone can overpower you. I am tired of seeing our players get injured by the same piece of shit over and over again. I am tired of McDavid taking liberties. Everyone understood when Lindros got his shit pushed in even when he was a superstar. I feel zero shame to say that I wouldn't enjoy seeing McDavid get caved in all the same. He's a piece of shit.

And what would you have done if someone took out Brown's knee in 2010, before the Kings won the cup, and he could never play again?
