Michkov feels like he is going to be rockstar for the Flyers. That draft is going to end up being really strong at the top with forwards. I think all five have a real chance to be franchise players.

Lemieux waived by the Canes, this guy really must have some issues between the ears for this many teams to keep punting him away, it's sad because he has the ability to be a really good 4th liner, as he was with the Kings.

There's going to be a lot of blow out games against us I reckon, especially with our shaky goaltending and Doughty injured. This vid does a great breakdown of why scoring is up in the league, also goes over the various systems various cup winning teams used.

Nashville is too old, should've traded Josi before re-signing him and started rebuilding, because he's somehow 34 now.

Colorado is going to end up with just 1 Cup out of MacKinnon/Rantanen/Makar. Probably going to re-sign Rantanen to a huge contract, and really seal the non-true contender deal.

Well, of course I'm going to agree and say that video is spot on, because it's what I've been saying on this forum since these guys took over.

It's an arms race, not only are the players significantly more skilled than they used to be, but perhaps more importantly the demand from the paying customer is for more offense, and thus the league has evolved into a league where offense wins and thrives. The same is happening in the other sports as well, so not surprising it's happened in hockey. I know many here who still yearn for Sutter 3-2 hockey, or the dead puck era 2-1 or 1-0 grind out playoff games, but those days are over, and unlikely to ever return, because the league won't allow it to happen.

That is why the Kings roster construction is so massively flawed, the Kings roster construction sure seems to be based on success the era that Robitaille and Blake spent much of their careers as players and not modern hockey. The lack of awareness to the evolving dynamics of the league by BLuc is just another in the long lines of black eyes from these guys management of this team. These guys actually think a roster without multiple offensive stars can win a Stanley Cup by playing a grind it out defensive style in 2024.

did you watch the florida panthers last year and admire thier defense and goaltending? hockey will always come down to defense, goaltending and one team imposing its physical will on thier opponent.
bettman, the leauge, and all the rest of the cheerleaders can WANT hockey to be completely an offensive game but the fact remains that defense wins championships. that is unless the nhl is turned into pro soccer with the constant diving to create manpower imbalances within the games and other officiating bs. whats deplorable is the attempts to turn a contact sport into a non contact sport. presently there is a good balance between physicality and the outright violence of the 70's. but whining for more offense and a kinder gentler contact sport is asinine.
blake and robitaille's goal is not roster building or winning hockey games. thier mission is to hold down payroll, increase the bottom line and maintain thier and their cronys jobs. its obvious to the most casual observer that on ice success has a low priority to the present management team.

That's cool and all, but what's the math on teams losing when scoring seven or more?

It was an idea. I didn't say it was a good idea.

It's not a 3-2 league any more. As much as execs and coaches talk about defense, you HAVE TO SCORE in this league to win. Looking at that list, you can see 3 goals doesn't cut it. The record of teams scoring exactly 3 goals in a game this season is:

12-10-2

Point % (54.2%) wise that's basically slightly below average.

The team that gets to 4 goals first almost invariably wins the game. Out of 77 games so far, 47 of them (61%) have at least one team scoring 4 goals. Out of those 47 games, the record of the team scoring 4 goals FIRST is:

41-0-6

No team has lost in regulation if they score 4 goals first. SCORE EARLY, SCORE OFTEN, WIN.
