Seattle isn’t so good that Chicago should have less than 5 shots over halfway through the game.

Weird night with a lot of teams struggling to put up shots.Canucks have 8 after 42 minutes against Islanders.

Some teams are surviving off 3 on 3 OT. This rule changes worked out really favourable for teams with only 3 good offensive players. It kills teams bad at 3v3 OT and higher depth/defensive teams. It doesn't make sense to design a team good on 3v3 because in the playoffs it's not played.
The NHL needs to go with 3 point regulation wins.
The Oilers have 5 regulation wins in 17 games. They have almost as many OT wins (4) as they do regulation wins.
The Bruins have 5 regulation wins in 18 games.
Not necessarily to your point, but your comment just reminded me of thisEverybody talks about the refs out to get the Leafs meanwhile Dallas was awarded the cheesiest penalty shot I've ever seen.
Every game I watched last night was a blowout. Two of them had a goal scored in the first minute. There seems to be more blowouts this year than in the past.
It's almost like teams fall behind early a couple goals and give up.
I guess once it becomes too hard to win it's not worth trying. That's a life lesson I didn't learn until I was a lot older than these kids. They probably figure they're better off saving their energy for the next game when they have a chance again.
There's no worse feeling in the world than clawing your way back only to lose by one goal.
Losers with a loser mentality. They'd be happy making the Stanley Cup finals even if they didn't win. Then the excuses would be all about how the refs robbed them.
Nobody f***ing cares why you lost.
Do you think their fans are jumping off ledges like some Leafs fans did last season when the Leafs started the season with only a handful of regulation wins? The league will never do the 3 pt standings, the whole point of handing out loser points is to create fake competitions in March and April. Some teams are surviving off 3 on 3 OT. Paul Maurice last year in the playoffs (as showcased on the Amazon Prime show), with the Panthers down a goal and only a few minutes left on the clock, told his team, "f*** the plays. I don't care about scoring a goal. Just pound their D, so in game 7 they have nothing left."
The strategy makes a little more sense in the playoffs and you're facing the same team so you can not only save your own energy and emotional well-being, but also suck the energy out of the other team, I guess.
But sort of like, "losers, but with a winning mentality". Sometimes you need to just let the win go and march on.
There's a lot of hate for the "respect in the handshake line" mentality, but there is an element where you can play a near perfect game, and the puck gods are still against you, and from a coaching perspective, when you see the team really running and clicking, the tick in the W or L column really doesn't matter, it's still a "win". You don't care about the results at that point, you care about capturing that energy.
