Notes on this list

The Good

  • Adam Gaudette - An AHLer in Toronto off to an absolutely blazing start with 6 goals.
  • Ryan O'Reilly - The one that got away. At 4.5 Million, he's proven to be a great #1 Center for the Nashville Predators
  • Stefan Noesen - A surprise for me as he hardly played here, only a game. But he's turned into a player in recent years. A late bloomer.
  • Zach Aston-Reese - From a guy who was an AHLer last year, seems like he has revitalized his career.
  • Mason Marchment - Seems to fit like a glove in Dallas as a PWF presence.
  • Nick Foligno - Thought he was cooked in Toronto, he's been a good since joining Chicago and has been a great locker room presence for their team.
The Bad
  • Zach Hyman and Michael Bunting have had horrific seasons, both look awful. 3 points between both in a combined 23 games.
  • Tyler Bertuzzi - Has had another slow start, looks like we've made the right decision there.
  • Pierre Engvall - Spent most of the year with Bridgeport in the AHL. According to NYI fans he was very pedestrian in training camp.
  • Sam Lafferty - Has taken a big step backwards from his previous few seasons.
  • Ilya Mikheyev - Looks absolutely cooked.
  • Kasperi Kapanen - Has struggled to be an NHL starting forward the past few seasons.
Sam Lafferty. The one that got away. Quite rightly deserved his two days of mourning from the fanbase.

He's a player that needed a change of scenery.
Iam surprised that Edmonton didn't trade for him .
His outlet paces have always been good .
He is playing relaxed now.
One game ...

He looked liked the Liljegren we saw at different times.

Took him a couple shifts and then he started making plays.
He played well. Made a couple of great passes on the breakout and looked comfortable.
Only played under 17 mins but the coach said they want to ease him in, and than let him roll.

The problem with cities like Winnipeg, Ottawa, Columbus, etc. is that even with full attendance every night the corporate participation is too small because the markets just aren't big enough.
It's not a problem in the Jets case because they are profitable as an organization and overarching business. Strong ownership is the key

While his last few years haven't been great, reputation goes a long way to getting contracts. The majority of say the last 3 seasons he eats up a chunk of games averaging above a .900 sv%. Not great by any chance but you could have worse

Even against a softer schedule, this has been an unbelievable start to the year for the Jets.

Where is Brazeau?
He actually was never our property since he was never given an NHL deal here. Played for the marlies on an AHL/ECHL deal.

For a similar reason, I didn't include Dakota Joshua as he never received a contract from the leafs. Or Carter Verhaeghe who never played a game in a jersey.
