Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Game #1 of SCF is next Wednesday. It is the last day of May already and the NHL is waiting 5 days to start the SCF. Do these guys not get it? Not many fans do not care for the SCF as it is, waiting almost a week to kick off the SCF and more fans will check out.
Also look at the days between the games:

Wednesday, Friday
Monday, THURSDAY!
Saturday, Tuesday
FRIDAY!

I think Edmonton wins this time. They finally have enough depth. Skinner just needs to be decent.

Oilers are going to need everything to beat Florida.

McDavid isn't coming to Toronto. He will eventually come, when he's 38 like Spezza

Drai and Connor hangout during the summer, they got cottaging together. He has a good life there.
Edmonton isn't the same city from the 80s where you had nothing to do. Most people now prefer places like Edmonton where it's still quieter, more relaxed that Toronto's bs traffic

Lifestyle matters

Weirdly enough McDavid and Draisaitl hang out in the Muskokas in the summer.

They've been scheduling the NHL final around the NBA for years. Chasing American TV exposure has consequences.

You could have said all the same things about Marner a year or two ago.

From treated like a god to out the door asap.

I don't disagree about Edmonton being (mildly).nicer than many assume. But the winter still sucks,.second probably on my to Winnipeg. And there's no changing where the extended family lives

Is it just me or is Manitoba either abominably cold or abominably loaded with bugs and there's like no in-between?

So you are saying we are getting both?

Marner situation and Tavares with the Isles are slightly different

Connors teams are headed to Stanley cup finals. They have a solid base. They are a winning team. Fans are not running anyone out of town or has any false expectations

Sure winter sucks but they play 40 road games.

The Oilers actually look like they like each other, like a cohesive unit.

Only way I can see it maybe if they win the Stanly Cup and MCdavid has something to prove

No offense to Matthews and Nylander but playing with Draisaitl seems to be a way better deal.
you guys have no idea what a player like McDavid would do for Matthews. He has one off year due to injuries and we forget the guy is the best goal scorer on the planet. Imagine he split time centering line 2 and McDavids wing... he could put up 80 goals.

Drai is incredible but absolutely gets a significant McDavid boost, on or off his wing, and still generally comes up short of Matthews goal totals.

How bad is the Oilers LW with Perry, Kappy, Ardvidsson and Fredric? Just goes to show that 97 and 29 can do much more with less than the 3 amigos. Their #3C is Janmark and their best LWer is RNH. If the Leafs played as hard as these Oilers and had no passengers, they might be playing in the SCF instead of the bullies from Florida.

That’s an unfair comparison, those two are elite players with McDavid at the highest possible tier.
The Leafs don’t lack desire or work ethic.

We have a very good idea what he’d do. If the Leafs had a couple of top end guys that allowed Matthews to slot in and play to his strengths, shooting and responsible D, he’d perform in the playoffs assuming he could shoot the puck.

If we had a couple of McDavid’s to carry Matthews on the first line…

They only need one top end guy and move Matthews to the wing.
If Matthews' ego will allow, I'll take a 1-2 punch of McDavid and Matthews down the middle and on the PP. With Willie as the third wheel, I like our chances. Tavares and Marner are just not dangerous enough to push this team over the hump.
