Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

I think its like you previously said, too slow which leads to it being extremely predictable.

It's almost like they have too many options in the playbook and thus overcomplicate things when sometimes a more direct, simplier approach would work.

Who knows, maybe we see something very different if Marner bolts and Rielly is moved.
Pace is much more of an issue than weapons IMO

I don't really care about a it point shot, it'd be nice, but our puck movement is so slow and the options don't seem to play for eachother well.

The first option doesn't seem to open a second or third and vice versa. It's a few individual set plays or patience waiting for a mistake instead of creating it

Aho again...he is really the best Finn out of the 3 that draft year...who did we pick at the time? Dermott ahead of Aho?
Apparently the story goes Babcock and someone else pushed for Dermot or a D with that pick and they overruled Dubas who wanted Aho... I think something about drafting lots of forwards and not much D. I remember tweets or whatever of that being posted on here... Maybe someone else remember this?

I guess that explains more about how Matthews and Marner are being highly overrated players because if you compare Hyman on their wing compared to being in Edmonton with McDavid or Draisaitl then he is a STAR.

Former Maple Leafs Player's Postseason Heroics Further Highlight Costly Mistake

Top 3 Playoff goal scorers in the last 4 years combined once he got out from under poor Leafs coaching and miss management.

One of the main reasons Hyman does so well in Edmonton is that he plays on the #1PP unit in the net front presence position like (Matty Knies) does now. Leafs NEVER played Hyman in Toronto on the #1 PP because they had to play the core 4 because of their high salary costs.

Hyman is built for playoff hockey .. Guess who leads the 2025 playoffs in HITS? AINEC

He averages nearly 8 hits a game.

As Far as 5 on 5 Even Strength goes only Mikko Rantanen has a higher "Expected Goals" in this years playoffs. He is a playoff warrior and the stats do not lie.

Whichever part of the Leafs' leadership was responsible for letting Hyman walk made a clear miscalculation..
I wish Hyman is still on the team but he is not having those numbers if he still on the Leafs.

I really think Hyman is really the only player who was good with the Leafs and then great elsewhere and I think McD and Drai helped too.
Brown is pretty much the same until he got injured.
Moore and Sandin just got more consistent play time.
While others like Soup, Campbell, Bunting, Holl, Kerfoot, Gally, Engvall, and Lilly. All struggles big time when they left the Leafs.

Dermot was actually touted to go late 1st. He was considered a good defensive prospect and we were top like heavy.

We just drafted Marner. To me the thought process was the right one. You are going to have your misses. Take a look at Boston thay years picks

What Barkov did I thought that's how Matthews would play

Barkov just wanted it more
our core players just aren't comparable to their peers

Matthews is not better than Barkov come playoff time, let alone McD, Drai or Mack

Marner is worse than rantanen, eichel, Connor

Nylander is worse than Kempe, M Tkachuk and others

we pay the most for least :(

Some teams just know how to win regardless of chips being down

Down 2-0 on the road coming back to win. Even they lost the lead. They got it back
