Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

I've always seen the Canes over the last few years as a better built and managed version of the Leafs. Though they clearly still have their own set of issues

not surprised to see Florida destroying the Canes. I liked us against literally anyone else these playoffs... it was just about 4 years too late to get our shit together

NHL might consider going back to the 1-8 playoff format because of the Hurricanes. This would've been the 1st round matchup but instead we get the pleasure of watching this potential sweep in the 3rd round.

It's quite conceivable at this point that Florida wins the guy and we come the closest to beating them.

I wish we had a productive and dangerous third line like the panthers have right now.

If you look back at the past Stanley cup champions , you can see that Almost every Cup winner always had a dominant third line. For example, Chicago in the early to mid 2010s had Sharp-Bolland-Frolik. Tampa five years ago had Goodrow-Gourde-Coleman. In 2015-2017 the pens had Kessel - Bonino -Hagelin. Right now, this Panthers line of Luostarinen-Lundell-Marchand is another one. It would be the 2nd line on a lot of good teams. But on a deep and great team like the panthers, it’s their third one.

In past years, I would have called out Leaf fans saying “Ohhh we were so close” and “if we could have beat Florida we would have won the cup” stuff because that’s what makes other fanbases rub “1967” in our faces every chance they get. But, this year is different. My god, we actually were so f***ing close .

Bettman went on record as recently as a month ago saying he loves this format. So, I very highly doubt this happens anytime soon.

When you have so much of the cap tied up to 4-5 players and the organization can't seem to produce good depth players, it's hard to have a solid, consistent 3rd line.

Domi and Pacioretty came through at times, but it was a revolving door of linemates for the most part.

Sorry for trashing you leafs for losing. This is NOT hockey we are witnessing with carolina. This is bettman's wet dream hockey.
