You know, since our exchange I've had this weird moment/epiphany: my hate for the Oilers is legitimately starting to fade.
No, I don't like the Oilers fans that go to the main boards. They, just like many of our posters that proliferate the main boards, can be insufferable and arrogant, and the way many handled themselves after winning the McDavid lottery is still outrageous. But as annoying as they are, they are undeniably loyal...just as we are. Despite the Oilers' problems, they have a hell of a lot more to cheer for than we do. We aren't in the Oilers' category because if the Oilers' goaltending is showing up there's no stopping them. There's no stopping them...and there seemingly is no starting us barring a miracle.
Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl deserve to be champions. They have shown countless times over that they deserve to be. They're going to get there someday soon. They will. Because they will settle for nothing less. I'm tired of holding on to this hate for the Oilers when we really don't interact with them all that often compared to Boston, Montreal, Ottawa or even the Florida teams.
They're going to win the Cup at least once someday. I won't be cheering, but I no longer think I'm going to be all that bitter.
