Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Hear me out - the oilers must win the cup. Why? McDavid is a conscientious and honourable soldier. I can only see him leaving Edmonton for Toronto if he gifts the fans a cup or two. He’s too loyal otherwise. We must do what’s best for our team. We must cheer for the Oilers. Sorry.

Edmonton made a mockery of the Pacific, all while missing Ekholm. Leafs would’ve been golfing two weeks ago if Tanev missed the start of the playoffs.

This might actually be Edmonton’s year. Fine. McDavid bringing a Cup there may make him feel less obliged to re-sign.

I don't see McDavid leaving Edmonton after Draisitl signed long-term.

I agree.

Drai and he must have talked about long term goals and plans.

Unless Drai just decided he wanted to be the guy if McDavid left.

I doubt it though

If Toronto wins the Stanley Cup I will cry. And I will have to buy tickets for my friend and me the next time Leafs are in Edmonton. And I will have to buy a Leafs jersey to wear at the said game. And all the food and drinks for the game. So I win. And I lose.
You know, since our exchange I've had this weird moment/epiphany: my hate for the Oilers is legitimately starting to fade.

No, I don't like the Oilers fans that go to the main boards. They, just like many of our posters that proliferate the main boards, can be insufferable and arrogant, and the way many handled themselves after winning the McDavid lottery is still outrageous. But as annoying as they are, they are undeniably loyal...just as we are. Despite the Oilers' problems, they have a hell of a lot more to cheer for than we do. We aren't in the Oilers' category because if the Oilers' goaltending is showing up there's no stopping them. There's no stopping them...and there seemingly is no starting us barring a miracle.

Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl deserve to be champions. They have shown countless times over that they deserve to be. They're going to get there someday soon. They will. Because they will settle for nothing less. I'm tired of holding on to this hate for the Oilers when we really don't interact with them all that often compared to Boston, Montreal, Ottawa or even the Florida teams.

They're going to win the Cup at least once someday. I won't be cheering, but I no longer think I'm going to be all that bitter.

The problem for me trying to hate them is I actually like far too many of their players.

Was always a fan of Ekholm, like Brown and Hyman. Obviously it is enjoyable to watch McDavid and Drai, and I covet having Bouchard.

Could care less if he plays D as lousy as Morgs, guy can put up 80-100 points and QB the PP.

Plus I have always like the way Podz plays. He is sneaky mean and tough

It's bad for hockey if McDavid never gets a cup in his prime.

Ill still hate the Oilers but won't cheer against (at least some of) their players

Hope Dallas finishes the Jets tonight and buys themselves a little time to rest. I’d like to see them hoist the cup. Very well managed team that checks a lot of boxes for me.

This Haltunen for the knights is on the goal scoring heater of a lifetime. Back to back hatties and already 2 more in tonight’s game.

well carolina takes care of business

they are so much better run, with bought in players even if they get swept in the ECF by florida again
