Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

I don't usually place bets but put $10 on all the series winners. Everyone looking good except TB ruining it for me atm. Thought they'd be better having home ice advantage with both teams being pretty bad on the road all year.

How did Dallas pick up Wyatt Jhonston at 23 overall and he was NHL ready the same year?
Kudos to them for giving them a fair opportunity instead of letting him 'marinate' in the minors

It feels like he's been in NHL forever

That was the Covid draft (2021), same draft we got Matthews Knies in the 2nd round. A lot of these guys barely played in 2020. So it was hard to get a good read on them

He has more playoff goals than Mitch Marner while playing 2/3 of the games and being six years younger.

There's nothing I love more than falling asleep for a nap while watching a hockey game at work.

When I nodded off tonight the score was 2-1 for Tampa with about five minutes left in the third. So I was a little surprised to wake up and find out Florida won. It's pretty clear the Lightning are no longer a serious threat to win another cup.

They've been relegated to pretender contender status.

Florida had a whopping 46 hits this game. That's not unusual for them either. They regularly punish their opponent through an aggressive forecheck with big hits to wear them down.

If you can't beat them in the alley you won't beat them on the ice.

It's an effective strategy as old as hockey itself. I was hoping when Berube became coach the Leafs would do the same. That hasn't happened yet and unless something dramatically different happens next series it won't.

Anyone who thinks these softies are gonna start playing a heavy game with lots of hitting is dreaming.

It probably wouldn't be as big of a deal if they didn't just randomly suspend 1 person and then others get nothing. This Ekblad one looks like he's intentionally trying to hurt players. Did it to Gourde too but the only difference was he was behind him and hit him in the back of the head/helmet. Just crazy you can clearly see him wind up his arm like he's gonna punch someone and elbows someone in the head and no call.
Roid rage. Still feels too convenient his suspension ended a few games into playoffs

During the fog of war of the pandemic I guess Johnston missed a lot of OHL time and got lost in the shuffle. Local kid from Toronto as well. That was the Amirov draft. If things had worked out differently we might have our own brilliant young forward as well…
