Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

Mike Sullivan fired. If Berube crashes and burns at some point and he's still around he'd be a good replacement. I imagine he'll get snatched up fairly soon though.

Absolutely no way. If leafs crashes and burns, it will have nothing to do with Berube. The core just needs to be dismanted at this point

It can't be 2 Stanly cup coaches in Berube and Babcock, one new coach in Keefe not be the core's fault

Few teams will be looking for coaches after the playoffs are done. Leafs will not be one of them

I don't want Sullivan anywhere near this team
Meh, people said the same shit about guys like Deboer, Cassidy etc. With the exception of generational guys like Jon Cooper, every single coach tends to lose the room a bit after a few years and things get stale, and often a fresh start somewhere else can lead to good results. In Pittsburgh's case too they refuse to move on from or properly retool their aging core, so hard to blame Sullivan that much for what's transpired the last few years.

Wasn't referring to this year, Berube is going nowhere for at least another season, likely two. Moot point though as Sully will be long gone by then.

He's also from MA, so yeah Bruins makes the most sense.

Edit: I didn't know that he actually coached the Bruins in the early 2000s as well, damn. Choked to the Habs though

Bruins are the classic case of if you win a Stanly cup, people forget about everything else

They have been one of the biggest choke franchise out there. I still remember 2008 Stanly Cup against Philly, they were up 3-1 in the series and 3-0 in game 7.
The game against Chicago (game 6?) they were 2-1 and gave up 2 goals in 30 seconds to lose the Stanly cup to Chicago

Not to mention few years ago against Florida, almost lost to the Leafs.

Yep Bruins have the worst record in NHL history in Stanley Cup finals and have had a ton of disappointments over the years relative to how strong of a regular season squad they've consistently been. Many chokes to Montreal as a higher seeded team over the years, even in the year they won the Cup they went down 2-0 to Montreal in the first round, and needed multiple OT wins including in OT of game 7 to finally get the better of them.

In 2014 just a few years after they won the Cup and had the same core in tact plus Iginla and Loui Eriksson, they had a powerhouse team that looked poised to make another Cup run and won the President's Trophy with 117 pts and a whopping +84 goal differential, but then blew a 3-2 series lead against Montreal in round 2 and only scored 1 goal in the final two games as Carey Price completely owned them.

The Bruins have won the President's Trophy 3 times since 2014 and were massive disappointments each of those years.

Anyone here worked for the Soo? Submit your resume to the Pens, you might have a chance as their head coach... :sarcasm:

McDavid - 126 points in 78 games
Draisaitl - 117 points in 78 games

They ranked #2 and #5 respectively for career playoff PPG:

There was a point not too long ago (leading into last year's playoffs) in which Draisaitl had the playoff numbers. Then McDavid went bonkers and had a playoffs for the ages last year.

It's remarkable how the two of them can get points practically at will.

Because they have set a personal standard for themselves. They like being the go-to guys
70% of skills and capabilities. 50% more is pride. They get 120% from those guys

Same with MacKinnon, same with Crosby/Malkin

The Leaf core have personal contract standards though... :sarcasm:

Kings might want to, I don't know, generate some offence.

Kings seem to have gotten caught up in the Oilers dysfunctional track meet and wrecked their team defense and goaltending in the process. If they lose it will be because they were lulled into playing the Edmonton game. They don’t have the star power to go offense for offense.
