Around the League - 2024-2025 Part II

The Habs are getting better and more comfortable as the series goes on. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them win the series in 6 or 7. Especially with Logan Thompson out long term because of injury.

Not very impressed by the Caps. They are good but not Stanley cup contenders good. They are pretenders and Paper tigers. the only playoff team in the east I'm really worried about is florida. I fear them for obvious reasons we all know.
I agree on both points.

Something runs me the wrong way with Washington. I think Carolina takes the Metro.

Nothing to worry about from the Metro at all. Easiest route to the conference finals by far.
Eh I don't super like playing Carolina. You have to be very positionally sound because there's no way we can outskate them. Keep them to the outside and don't make mistakes, don't get drawn into a track meet.

Washington can be a heavy team but Florida is more dangerous in that department imo.

Even if Montreal upsets Washington they aren't going to make it through Carolina yet. They are going to be good soon though, unfortunately.

I was thinking about a potential Leafs/Canes cf yesterday. I reached the conclusion that considering each teams system, that could be one boring series.
Hoping we avoid it.

I agree. Carolina might skate around a lot with little penetration(teehee) due to our goaltending and lane-blocking while we don't get the puck very often.

Carolina and Florida would be a whirlwind of forechecking.

Wow, Dylan Strome you had one job to do on that play and it wasn't to injure your own goalie...
What a dumb play by Strome. He may have just ended Logan Thompson's playoffs, and possibly his career. That knee buckled underneath him in a really bad way with speed and weight on top of him. What a dangerous and painful collision it was.

Too early to say.

You just want to see the playoff tree unfold with long grueling series, exhausting drama, a mix of high profile teams getting knocked out and bumps and bruises while taking care of your own business. Find a path through the chaos, but it's not after 3 games in the first round.

Habs are playing with house money. They are a young team after all. No one expected them to achieve anything this year. On the other hand, There is much More pressure on Washington to succeed this year. People have high expectations for them.

Last time the leafs and the canes met in the playoffs was the 2002 ECF and it was a very methodical/defensive series with little offense. Irbe and Cujo at their best.

I feel like Washington has the Ovechkin hangover a little bit. There is just something missing there despite the record and 2-1 lead in the series. I think Carolina gets them in 6 or 7.

Washington is still a mirage to some degree. Like they're a good team, but kind of a conference winner the way Boston posted a 135 point season a couple of years ago. They're not that good and can be vulnerable.

f*** that series.

I know Detroit would have assblasted us because no one was beating that team but still.
